Did anyone else notice in post #372, the black and white S&S ad that they were loading the cot in the up position. The person on the cot must have only weighed 30# to do that. I guess it shows a high door opening, but not very safe or practical.
S&S was proud of its 55" headroom, compared to the hightop competition in 1964:
Eureka - 54"
Miller-Meteor - 48"
Superior/Cadillac - 50"
Superior/Pontiac - 46"
C/B - 46"
Other ads show how the S&S "Professional High Body" could accommodate five supine patients plus a (side facing) attendant. Here's an example:

Is that a Superior front sign on the raised roof of the S&S?
It appears to be; the few other roof signs I've seen on S&S cars have been from Superior (or from their supplier).
This photo was taken at a parade in Madison on May 19, 1956. While most Bowtie fans prefer the '55-'57 convertibles and two-door hardtops, my favorite of these three years was always the '56 four-door hardtop (as seen in the background):

Until four 1964 S&S hightops were purchased, the Omaha F.D.was using trucks like these for rescue work as well as patient transport.
One of the Cadillacs ended up at little-bitty Petersburg, NE. By the time I sold them a (used) 4x4 Type III in 1992, this girl was gone.

Here are photos of an unidentified '36 Cadillac sedan ambulance. From the notes on back it appears that the photographer was trying to sell the car. This girl sports a small siren (or sirenlight) on the roof and a Bomgardner cot.
