Intersection lights

I love excess when it comes to my cars and I really like these fender mounted intersection lights. Was there a standard light that most used and are mounting bases readily available ? Anything else to be mindful of with these lights ?

Those are Mars 888s on the fenders. Are you sure that you would want to work around those in doing mechanical work??
 
For best clarity sit in a car just ahead of that rig, they are attention getters,you will notice many roof lights (bars)will have angled lights to the side,intersection warning lights,but with all the bells and whistles employed many drivers still don't get it or are unwilling to give up their spot,some even tailgate emergency vehicles hoping to get there faster. But love that rig and all its lights.

I have seen these on a few cars and have always wondered what they're "officially" called, but have never taken the time to ask. I have seen them on the rear quarter panel too, but they are very rare.

Can you tell us more about them, such as were they a Cadillac option or a professional car maker option? Are they hard to find? and anything else you can share about them would greatly be appreciated.

cut a 5 inch hole in your fender and install tail lights available at any truck stop or auto parts and you will have what they installed back then. diest I think. they just flash on and off and are not very affective but were installed back in the day I guess for lack of anything else. 1157 bulb with a Peterson lens held in with a snap ring. standard stuff on 18 wheeler trailers. not worth the trouble in my humble opinion as the just make a new place for rust to start. the 888's should be on the roof. but your car so put em where you want butt...:thumbsup:

The images in post #9 that you posted have what look like inexpensive generic lights that Kyle mentioned could be bought in a truck stop. I remember seeing an old image posted some time ago on the board of a retired 1969 Hightop that sat in a junk yard that had one of these intersection lights that was smaller and seemed to have some type of Cadillac emblem around the actual lens.

Have you ever seen any on the rear quarter panels? I vaguely remember seeing one or two cars that did
 
As mentioned, they pretty much were a generic turn signal light mounted on/in the fender by the coachbuilder. Nothing too fancy.

Mike, be careful about adding too many lights to a car. Your '73 was already overloaded electrically, which caused problems for the previous owner. Don't add to the problem, there's only so much power an alternator can supply! :eek:
 
Intersection Lights

Some folks used Federal Fireballs mounted out on the top of the front fender to accomplish the same thing. You typically had to paint the inside of the dome black at the spot that prevented the light from shining back into eyes of driver and passenger.

That does have front intersection lights. The thing on the rear quarter isn't a light, that's the air intake scoop for the rear air vent system.

When I purchased the '73 it already had so many lights it looked like a boardwalk amusement ride which is why I bought it. My interest wasn't in adding them to this rig but to any future rigs I might someday acquire. Those fender lights below look ackward and gaudy. In other words, perfect for me !242054.jpg

Yes I am aware of the rear air intake I was only mentioning the front intersection light on this one and for some reason I had thought it was this car that had the Cadillac emblem wreath around the lens light, but it's apparently another vehicle.

so many cars and so little mental memory left these days :D

Edit to add:

This vehicle in post #9 has rear quarter panel lights / reflectors although in this cropped image they are not visible
