Getting ready for Hudson

It's ALIVE!

Well, after many months, blood, sweat, tears, and a bunch of money...don't we ALL know that is true....my car finally emerged from the garage today for the first time in 7 months. I guess I will make it to Hudson after all. Still a few more things to do (headliner next week), odds and ends, etc. Of course, the first thing that happened when I pulled her out of the garage was a bird pooped on her. Can't win for trying. Oh well, I am just thrilled she is running again (better than ever) and now the only large hurdle left is passing state inspection Friday afternoon. Thanks for ALL of your help and encouragement, I appreciate it!

Wow Shawn, that looks fantastic. Did you have to switch the A/C to 134.a? I thought I saw where the A/C compressor had been moved.

It looks wonderful and anixous to see it next week.

Thanks! No, nothing done to the A/C, have run out of time to have it looked at before I leave. I had the compressor out of the way to paint, but it was still hooked up and does have some R12 in it, so I left it alone. It runs and it gets slightly cold, but that is about it. I would not be as lucky to just need a charge, but you never know. I had a '79 Sedan DeVille that the A/C was never touched and worked fantastic until I traded the car at 145,000 miles. It would literally frost the steering wheel where the vents pointed at it!

Glad I won't be competing in his class cause that is one sweet car.

Thanks Danny, but you know how cars look better in pictures than in person....but I will take the compliment anyway. It has a long way to go until I am 100% happy with it, but I think we can all say that. They are NEVER done....

got started on mine yesterday. the tep got up to 100 so i figured that was the best time to brake out the old bissell. cleaned up the engine compartment while I was at it. fresh oil and new shoes baby will be ready to go with a light buff.

Contact Paul to see if he would bring gauges and some of his R-12 to the meet. It may not be cheap but could get it up to a proper charge.

Passed!!

Just back from the garage to get my car inspected. She passed with flying colors, so I couldn't be more excited. This is the first time I have driven it since it was put away at the end of October of last year, and since it was all tore apart. That is a great feeling, let me tell ya. Hudson here we come!!!!!!:071:

can we do an air conditioning tech session in the parking lot??? :snow_smi:

My car quest still can get freeze 12 if anyone would like me to bring some to Ohio meet I can. I still use it on a regular basis.

Freeze 12 is a mixture of propane and other gasses, and is not the same as R12. I wouldn't recommend it for use, because once you use it, no one wants to work on the AC units, because it will contaminate their equipment.

No one in my area has any problems using Freeze 12 and my a/c guy of 30 years turned my on to it so I have never had an issue. We have our own equipment to add to cars we get in still using freon. Couple of garages we use know we have used freeze 12 and they don't mind so not sure about any problems. Car Quest has informed me that 134 is on the way out also and something new is already in use but I don't remember what they said it was but price of 134 has went through the roof in our area.

It might be a regional thing, but around here, no one is using Freeze 12, and I have been told that it is because of the recycling rules. I have the gauges to install 12, and the vacuum pump, but no recovery equipment, so I haven't any first hand knowledge. I only use R12 in my cars, and I only add to what is already in there. I prefer to err on the side of caution, and only use what I know is in the system presently.

Actually a good route to take Paul. I am not going to get in the discussion of whether to convert, use freeze 12, find freon, or what ever as I figure each individual can make their own decision. I just wanted to help those who couldn't get freeze 12 as some have told me and I can still get it. I know alot of areas quite carrying it. Was still available in 30lb container but not sure if it is now but cans no problem at about $15 each few weeks ago.
