Favorite pictures of your Pro-Car

The beacons on this car appear to be quite close together. I don't think I've ever seen one get out of the factory(s) with them that way. Curious about that. Changed out sometime after delivery???

Speaking of delivery photos, here's a shot of Pink Champagne arriving from Ohio. She was so dirty and sad looking. It was an emotional moment for me, under the circumstances. We both felt much better after she got some mechanical attention and a good bath.

Yes, it was a very sad occasion for all of us, with the passing of our good friend Bernie DeWinter. It was his wish that you become the caretaker of his most prized possession, and to that end you have made her a proud vehicle again. I can see in my minds eye, Bernie peering down from heaven and smiling proudly...

No. The beacons are factory originals with that placement. She was run most of her service life with amber domes, which Bernie changed over to red (I do have the original amber, but since we don't run amber beacons on hearses in MN, I doubt if they'll ever go back on the car.) Most of her is stock / original with the exception of the original white over white changed to the Sandalwood "Pink Champagne" color late in her service life. After Bernie bought her in 1991, he had her all stripped down again (all chrome, glass, and vinyl top removed) and redone in the Sandalwood. With a gold interior, she looks mighty stunning in this unique color. She also sports a replacement 500 CID engine. The original 472 was replaced much earlier in her service life. You'd never know it by looking, but she has logged nearly 171,000 miles!

Ok, since we are showing pro-cars in snow I have to through this one in.

It doesn't snow much around here, so this is the only pic I have of one of my pro cars in the snow.
My 71 Superior, about a month after I got her, whitch would be about November, 02.

My two favorite photos of my Ambulet are here. One is the color photo Gregg Merksamer shot that was the cover of TPC, in front of the Silver Diner in Cherry Hill, NJ: August, 2008.

The other is a photo of it - the same car - the day it was delivered to it's original owner, Frank "Bingo" Blair (far right) of the Nashwauk Ambulance Service: July, 1954.

This is a photo that was taken the day after my 1963 Cadillac arrived here in Rhode Island. It is one of my favorites, despite the fact that the fender skirts were not installed for shipping purposes.

Favorite Shots... Part 1

Here are my favorite images of three (of the six) vintage ambulances I've had the privelege of owning, at one time or another, over the past 16 years...

The top photo was taken at the Palo Alto Ambulance main station located at 2253 Park Blvd., Palo Alto. PAAS also operated under the DBA of Stanford Ambulance.

Further up the San Francisco peninsula from Palo Alto is the City of San Bruno, where the cousin of the owner of Palo Alto Ambulance ran his service; Silv'a Ambulance. Here are a couple of shots from his company.

you got to admit that first shot Robert put up is the definition of 70s cool. long hair, side burns, arm out the window, ring taping on the rear view mirror. you just hear the rock and roll out of the one crappy speaker. truckers mirrors on the rig the center door molding missing and about to lose the front one. but hay man it's Kool. ;)

My Favorites

I was going through some old pictures I had tonight, and ran across these. These have got to be my favorites. The first is of my 71 Superior Sovereign Combination at the Funeral Home the day I got her. the second, is when she arrived home. Both on the same day.

Any inside shots of this ambulance? Curious about the setup with the lack of windows. Was this a "Criterion" wanna be! :thumb:

Richard, as you can probably tell, that's a Superior. It's a Superior 54XL. You're mostly right.

M-M came out with the Criterion in 1974 (with a demo in '73) to compete with van ambulances. At the time, it must've looked like the idea would catch on. Superior jumped in with the "54XL", their hightop with panel sides and cabinets on the wall similar to the M-M Criterion. Superior offered the 54XL in '75 and '76. The interior of a 54XL looks very similar to the interior of a Criterion.

Fewer 54XL's were built than Criterions.

Hey Robert, your Criterion sits a bit lower in the rear than mine. Mine has a set over coil over shocks on it but used to have air shocks. What's on yours?

The rear has leaf springs and air shocks. When it starts sitting low I just add more air via the nipple which is located next to the gas filler.

Here you go, Richard...

These are interior views of the 1975 Superior '54XL' I owned from 1993 until 1999, at which time I sold it to an emergency physician out in San Diego. As best as I was able to determine, this ambulance originally served the community of Laurel, Maryland... though I was never able to actually confirm that as fact.

Here are a few more images, made in early 2000, depicting my former ambulance... displayed in the parking lot of the "Urgent Care & More" clinic (near San Diego International Airport) operated by the physician who acquired it from me.
