Weather disaster in Tennessee.

Kinda reminds me of my area a couple years ago when the floods hit Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Two story houses were flooded to the roofs, that were miles from the river. The town still has not fully recovered, and they are still tearing down buildings. It never happened before and prolly never will. Glad you are ok and the cars are safe.

Jackson town siren

Jeremy: In one of the video clips of Jackson.... there is an air raid type siren "cycle-wailing" in the background. Any idea where that is located and model-type? Do you know if it's used also at 12-Noon each day except Sunday as in the case with a lot of small rural towns in past?

Although I don't know what Jackson has (their about 3 hours west of me) I know alot of the towns around here still use the old "air raid" type sirens for tornado, flood and storm warnings. Here in Watertown ours still gets tested every Saturday at high noon. Don't know the brands/makes of the sirens but I did run a cross a site on the web a while back that someone had that went around different towns through out the U.S. photographing different ones and each photo told a model, make, year etc etc.

They still use the siren everyday at noon where I live, even on Sunday.

Mike that link doesn't seem to be working. There is a nice hemi siren located in the basement of the Walter P. Chrysler Museum as part of their "What Can You Hemi" display. Here is a link to a Youtube video of the Chrysler-Bell Victory Siren. There are a lot of them on there so I just picked one.

Tennessee Flooding:

I am probably dating myself but when Tennessee Ernie Ford would signoff from his television show he always said, "see you next week if the good Lord willing and the creek don't rise". From the pictures I've been saying of the flooding in Tennessee, I now know what he meant. Hang in there Jeremy and Louann.

Ole Ern had wanted to be an opera singer, and studied same at the Cincinnati Conservatory, but the funds ran out in the Hard Times of the 1930's, and Ernie had to drop out of school. He was from Bristol, TN, right on the state line, with Bristol VA. He joked that had he been born on the other side of town, he would have been known as Virginia Virgil. He was a good man, a great singer, and I miss him still.

Thanks!

Thank you again, everybody, for your concern. It's been a rough few days to say the least. Although Jeremy and I weren't directly affected, we have witnessed a LOT of devastation and know those who have. Jim had asked about where to make a donation. Tonight on one of our local channels there is a telethon. It is called "Flood Relief with Vince Gill and Friends". The write up about it is below. The money will stay in Middle Tennesee and benefit the Salvation Army, Red Cross and Second Harvest Food Bank. The numbers to call are 615-738-2913 and 877-345-1522. I know times are hard and if you are able to donate it will be appreciated. I'm calling in hopes of Keith Urban taking my call!!

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- WSMV-TV Channel 4 will broadcast Working 4 You: Flood Relief with Vince Gill & Friends on Thursday, May 6, in prime time from 7 to 10 p.m.

Other stars scheduled to appear include Keith Urban, Alison Krauss, Naomi Judd, Amy Grant, Lorrie Morgan, Darius Rucker, Phil Vassar, Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry, Steve Wariner, Buddy Jewell, Lonestar, Bo Bice, Lee Roy Parnell, Bryan White, Julie Roberts, Chuck Wicks, Jimmy Olander, Steven Curtis Chapman, Brandon Heath and Billy Dean.

Nashville and the surrounding middle Tennessee communities have been devastated by floodwaters after the area received 15 inches of rain within a 48-hour time period. Thousands of middle Tennesseans have been evacuated from their homes with many losing everything to the flood. Many of the victims do not have flood insurance, and the demands on relief agencies are stretched to the limit.

“These are our friends and family; we always take care of our friends and family,” said Meredith Senior Vice President and WSMV-TV General Manager Elden Hale Jr. “It’s unfortunate that we’re called upon to do this again for our neighbors, but we are very proud to have the ability to reach out to so many people with Nashville’s flood relief telethon.”

All proceeds from Working 4 You: Flood Relief with Vince Gill & Friends will benefit The Salvation Army, The Red Cross and The Second Harvest Food Bank.

Channel 4 is unable to accommodate a live audience at the station. The only way to see the telethon is on Channel 4 and WSMV.com.

Jeremy, LeeAnn, and Josh glad to see you guys made out okay. We don't really have tornadoes, but this past spring we saw historic flooding in Rhode Island. Hope everybody else from the Volunteer Chapter was unaffected as well.
