Weather disaster in Tennessee.

That is terrible, I have driven through there with you guys on many occasions. Very beautiful town.

Last time that I remember this happening was in the late 80's, it was on Valentine's Day. I've been trying to access the live cam to see if the T-bird is still there, but I guess the camera is down.

I can't pull it up either, all I'm getting is a blank white box. Its poring here again, it just knocked my tv out. We've had atleast 4 savear thunder storm warnings sence 7am, and another one coming. And a few tornado warnings for othere areas. They say its gonna keep going til atleast 5pm.

This is just terrible for all of you and our hearts go out to all those suffering from the flooding. I know about three years ago we had a broken tile in the storm sewer and a rain came along like this. It flooded behind our property so fast and actually flooded the garage where I keep two of the ambulances. I know how stressful it can be watching water rise. We were lucky the floods stopped with about two inches before it would have flooded the cars. Hang in there!:pat:

I had just driven through this area last Tuesday on my way back from Lewisburg, Tn..

It was two years ago next month that sever flooding had hit my area of southern Indiana, causing millions of dollars of damage and a number of deaths. At the time I was working and living at the Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington St. in Columbus, Indiana, and the flood waters came within a block and a half of our main office.

Good luck down there, guys.

I know the storm is coming toward us now, too. The sky is dark to our west. We're on a mountain (actually, Mount Airy is the name of the town but not the name of the mountain, which is Parr's Ridge), so flooding isn't an issue. I just had the garage roof sealed. Now tornadoes or wind?

This is unreal. They are now calling it a historical, generational event, that it will never (never, say never) happen in our lifetime again. Today, there have been 200 water rescues, 600 911 calls going at the same time, Vanderbilt Children and Adult hospitals flooding, canceling elective surgeries. A hospital next to where I work (we read x-rays there) has 3 feet of water, a power grid is on fire, firefighters can't get to it because of the water. I don't know about my office building, but all of that is very close by and most streets are closed. Roads and bridges are buckling, malls closed (that rarely happens), schools already closing. They just said on the news they aren't even taking anymore more pictures of flooded cars because there have been so many. Huge trees being uprooted, people stranded on rooftops and in buildings. The Cumberland River at Riverfront park in downtown Nashville is at about 46 feet and they say it hasn't even crested (expecting to crest tomorrow), it is close to spilling over onto 1st Avenue, which the other sides of the buldings are located on 2nd Avenue, they all are VERY old and have basements, they are expecting them to flood. Fences down, livestock loose. Fish swimming in the streets. They aren't opening the dam gates right now because they said the drop in the water temperature would endanger all the fish, I guess they are saving that as a last resort. Lots of people with no electricity. Shelters everywhere. Governor telling people to stay home. 9 dead in Tennessee. On the news they just said a federal disaster declaration is being sought. The lake is all around me, I'm on a hill, but if it keeps this up I may be sitting on the roof. This is like a bad, bad movie. And this is just part of it.

Ms. Boston, is there an agency in the area to which donations for relief assistance can be sent? Let us know, please. Just don't give up. You will get through it. Tornado survivor out..............

Jeremy, Leann and Kent:
I checked my website weather radar yesterday and area of precip was going to miss us - but wow, the yellow and red areas in Tennessee were unbelievable what wide swath they were covering... good luck and hope you dry out soon...

Thanks everybody for your thoughts and kind words. And thanks, Jim, that is a very nice gesture. I've had the TV on all day and I have not heard one word about any donations, etc., not even items the shelters may need. I really hadn't noticed that until your post. I'm sure something will come up. I just heard that one of the Judds, I think they said Naomi had called the TV station saying her fences were washed down and all her buffalo had escaped. It may end up looking like Noah's Ark with all these animals running loose! I think the storms are past us, but we are expecting a few more hours of rain. They are talking like the worse is yet to come once the river crests, and the water starts settling and 'things' start washing up - gonna be a mess.

So far I'm doing fine on my hill. Still have lights, running water and landline phone. Just went out an to survey and see how bad things are here in Shop Springs community. Its not looking good here at all. Right now I only have one way out of my road that I live on and it will take alot to flood that end out. The main way I use to get in and out is inpassable. Creeks around here have all crested there banks. Fences are down on farms all around me. So far there are no houses flooded that I seen went I was out but that will be differant in a hour or so. The main highway U.S Highway 70 that goes through the middle of Shop Springs is still open as well. To follow the emergency we are going through right now you can log onto one of the Nashville Television stations www.newschannel5.com. They seem to be giving the best coverage of the disaster here so far. More updates to come.

Wow...

Hang in there Jeremy....at least you still have your power, etc. Let's hope things start to go down during the night. Maybe that combo could be turned over and used as a boat? Just kidding, seriously, hope that nothing gets any worse for you or anyone else in the area.

Jeremy, can you up-date us on the situation in your area, please? And, is there some agency or whatever to which relief assistance can be sent ? Thank you. Hope the worst is over for all of you. Jim

Glad you all are on high enough ground to be safe from the flooding. On another note, don't plan on visiting the Grand Ole Opry anytime soon...

Our thoughts are with you guys!

I saw pictures on the news last night of the Opryland Hotel being flooded.... I've stayed there before and didn't realize it was in a low laying area? Out in CA we get used to our nearly everyday earthquakes and seasonal wildfires. MM

All with us is well. Although we did have about a foot of water get in under the funeral home due to the gutter run off during the floods which is drying out and will be OK. The death toll in Tennessee is over 20 now and Tennessee has been declared a federal disaster area as have many counties have been including Wilson County the county I live in. Of course the Opryland Hotel is completely flooded out as we as the home of the world famous Grand Ole Opry, Opry Mills Mall and Downtown Nashville. Thousands of homes and businesses are destroyed and people have lost everything the owned. Most didn't have flood insurance as it wasn't required since when homes, businesses and condominiums were built and they were not in flood planes at the time, but are underwater now. Here is a link to one of the news channels that will have up to date info on the flooding and way to contribute to help the ones devastated by the floods, http://www.newschannel5.com/Global/category.asp?C=59819. Also here is a video I shot of the creek just down the hill from my house just to show the power the flood waters had this past weekend. I'll also post some pictures as well. Here are some photos that I shot Sunday showing the local devastation. All were taken within 3 miles of my house.
