Sharing pics a friend sent

Although they are not great pics, they show some great lines.

A friend is an over the road trucker and he shot these with his phone while travelling somewhere near Nevada

This 1956 Superior-Cadillac Moderne Limousine Funeral Coach was at the PCS International Meet in Burbank CA a few years ago.....you can just barely make out the name of the band that once owned it on the second side door. We photoshopped it out in our post-meet issue of TPC. - Walt

I saw it about a week ago on eBay. Didn't follow the auction, so I don't know what it sold for.

Glad to see that the car is on the road. It left California yesterday and is headed to Iowa. I'll let the new owner introduce himself on here. I sent him a link to this thread on FB, so he should be posting on here soon. I also told him to get in touch with John Royark about joining his local chapter.

Iowa?? Now Im really curious to see who bought it!!!

That car was owned by Norman "Baron Shivers", the drummer of "The Ghastly Ones".

It was a favorite of mine in California as were some of the other cars in "The Vintage Hearse Association". They had some sweet original '50's hearses.

I wish I had of seen the for sale ad !

I really like the history of "Bands that drove Hearses" and this one one fine example.

No idea when Bryan and Norman both sold their cars but I would sure like to know why. I'm sure some of the SO CAL hearse owners know.

Hope to see the car again and would be nice to know who owns it now.

Neat part of procar history there,
Darren

If I remember right, this car has ben on eBay a couple times over the last year or so. Nice looking coach. 1956 Cadillacs are my favorite, and even more when they are a Pro-Car. Congrats to the new owner.

A word from the owner...

My buddy Bryan is working out some technical difficulties with getting on the site. Until he gets them figured out, he sent me this message on Facebook that he wanted me to post on here:

Hi all,

Many thanks for the thrill I had in reading this thread and the good fortune that one of you saw the hearse on the road!

It finally got here a few days ago and is in great shape. I took it for a cruise and it rode fine, then cruised the next day and it overheated twice on me! I'll have the radiator looked at and it's been recommended to have it rodded, which I'll do.

My pal Norm had this coach in his care for many years and he finally had his eye on something else and decided to make room by offering it to me and I jumped on it. Although I don't recall the hearse being on ebay since about 2005 or so, Norm did indeed have it on Craigslist for a little while and I snagged it.

The engine was rebuilt in 2006 and I actually drove Norm to pick it up several times while it was being worked on and have enjoyed a little bit of history with the coach. Norm did a lot of work on it, including reupholstering the bench seat in the correct period two tone burgundy and grey colors as well as a lot of work under the hood.

The only things I'll do is to clean up the body a little bit, throw a new coat of black on there and a set of new hubcap medallions. I'll score a set of period whitewalls when I can save the pennies.

As to Darren's questions about why I sold my old '51 Superior hearse (as well as the matching '51 Superior Naval ambulance) well, in 2009 the economy tanked and I had to part with them. It's as simple as that. The ambulance went to a collector in Mexico and the hearse went to a funeral home in the midwest, so both have good homes now.

I'm now in Iowa, so I look forward to meeting up with PCS members here!

My best wishes to all,

Bry

Sarah

THANKS for the post from Bryan !!!

Bryan

It was a pleasure meeting you in California a few years ago.

I never really had the want to own a early-mid '50s hearse until I saw the 4 of you pull into Johnny Carson Park during the PCS meet in Burbank.

I was stopped in my tracks and watched in awe as you, Norm and a couple others drove in and parked in front of the mini stage. :4_11_9:

That changed my want list from '59-'68 change to '50-'68 !
Thanks for expanding my mind on the older coaches.

The coaches, the clothes, the ladies... WOW, that was impressive to say the least ! I will never forget that !

Hope to meet up with you again sometime soon.

I know you will take care of that hearse. Glad to hear you are the new owner.

Enjoy the ride bro !

Hi All!

Well, it's been a real welcome from many lovely folks. Sarah guided me through the process of getting signed up again and Paul was very helpful today in giving some wonderful guidance on heating issues for the '56!

John, I'm in a little town about two hours from Des Moines. Feel free to PM me and we'll make plans to meet up very soon! I really look forward to seeing your '49 hearse! What a beauty!

Darren, you were a joy to meet those several years ago in Burbank and the pictures that you kindly sent to me were so appreciated!

Yeah, my little crowd truly did our best to elevate the level of class when we rolled in with our little group. It always amazes me just how many people who go to hearse shows that won't even wash their coach. It takes so little effort to make those great old cars look their best! I try!

Part of the bonding with these great old cars is going through them, detailing them, reading the shop manual and cleaning them. Even if you're not a wrenchhead, you can still learn a lot by going through the manuals and getting a real sense of what makes the coach tick. Even breaking down can be a good thing because when you do, you learn how to fix something!

Yes, my pal Norm did me a great honor by passing the torch to me in being the one to take care of this great '56! I hope I can bring something to the table here in sharing my adventures and hearing about all of yours, too!

It's all about the cars, baby!

Your pal,

Bry
