Rocky has a new coach?????

Parts

Rocky,
I stopped by Purkey's Auto Salvage in Coffeyville, KS again today and they do have 4 or so '58 Cadillacs, if you find yourself needing stuff that can come off of a any '58 deVille. I think Kyle still has a '58 parts car as well.

well i have been gone this last couple of weekends, Now im back and getting ready to hit it hard on the car again. I just picked up my new springs they look great. Also got new u-bolts and bushings.

They came from babcock spring in milwaukee wi.

here is the big part of the puzzle i have been waiting for. Its going to take some head scratching and planning to make it work, but game on i guess.

This is a hanging pedal assembly with a big 9" dual diafram booster, with a 4wheel disk brake master cylinder.

well i stopped over by my car club brothers toms place. Here are alot of the brake parts we will be using for the rear. I took the rear to be acid dipped, while he is starting to do some of the machining of the axel parts.

I will keep up with the picture's of it as he does it. I know some of you are intrested in to see how it all get's done.

Very happy to say that when we broke down the rear end it looked very nice and clean. Looks like the 20.000 something miles that it has. It was pretty amazing at how like mollasses the lube was like in there. The only good part of that is that it coated the inside tubes and housing well that there was no rust inside of it.

well with trying to get the front brake,s done. I have stripped the fire wall of the heat boxes and original brake booster.

I used the original boxes and layed them out on some 10 gauge plate. I will mount them up on the fire wall, and this is where i will mount the new hanging pedal assembly, and in the future the new heat box.

i have been thrashing away, and happy to say i have got my new brake set up all mounted, and the inside hanging pedal assembly all figured out.

Here is a pic of the fire wall mounting plate with the holes for the booster, and the others so the cowl panel will drain. Im going to mount the body tag from the box on this plate also.

here is it mounted up on the fire wall, fun to figure out the placement, needed to keep it away from the steering column, the valve covers, and then not have it hit the inner fenderwells.
It just missed the inner, i had to give the front brake line going to the valve just alittle tweak for some extra room.

here is the inside of the car, i took the original pedal pad and metal pad and welded it to the hanging pedal, so it will have a more factory look.

And the other pic is of all the inner fenderwells that i just got back from being acid dipped, have to weld up a couple of cracks and then the parts are going out to be powder coated

Those acid dipped parts sure look good !

You would think they are brand new replacements, not original parts over 50 years old.

Powder coating will make them last another 50 years and look good too.

Fabrication is a fantastic thing ! The booster mounting looks real good.

Stopping is more important than anything else on a car. Looks like it will have 50 year new technology stopping that beast.

Thanks for sharing the progress.

Can't wait to see it and go for a spin in it,
Darren

well this weekend i just went another step deeper into the rebuild of the old girl.

I removed the motor and trans. i did not want to pull the core support off yet. Trying not to disturb the lower fender mounts right now. Taking the fenders off will open pandora box with the mounts. When i get it running and driving i want to run it in its original patina for a bit.

so with all that said it was alittle hairy scary getting that heavy hunk of iron out.

here is another good pic. As i have been working on this the trans has been leaking some. When i pulled the drive shaft out not really any trans fluid came out so as i pulled my motor out, it turned into the exxon valdese. So much for the thought there was not much fluid in it
