I know you guys are probably getting tired of me "honing in" on the (CA) License Plates, but an W, X, Y or Z prefix in that era would signify that it's a Commercial "For Hire" Ambulance paying fees for every dollar earned to the CA State Board of Equalization rather than an EXEMPT County or State Public Service Vehicle. MM
 
picked up this one today the subject was of interest. 53 national. at a coal mine accident in Pen. with what is going on in the east I think it's fitting. loaded up truck with all the trim, fender skirts removed for the season.

SOP in the 50s. one look at these pictures and you can understand why I get indigestion over the secondhand smoke and you die commercial on the TV. to hear them no one of my generation could have live past two. I don't remember a time before the no smoking laws were pasted that I wasn't with some one that was smoking. inside or out.

but what is the car they are in. some "dead" give aways on the inside of it.
 
Car hit a parked truck in Pacoima district of LA dated 4/1/52, resulting in 1 fatality and 3 critically injured. Will continue searching archives for daytime shot of this handsome two-tone '50 Flxible Buick Premiere ambulance! CA license X77080. Although front plate portion is partially blocked, it does have stacked vertical letters which may read COM.
