These two ads, designed and placed to complement each other, touted the Funeral Auto Co.'s (Louisville, KY) relationship with Cadillac and S&S:

Still in business?

I googled "Funeral Auto Company in Louisville" and apparently they are still in business buying large fleets. A press release from the Local Eagle Dealer announced that "they" bought (11) New Hearses and (12) 6-Door Limos in September 2010. MM

1960 Superior hightops

Fire Engineering; January, 1960 - The Cadillac photo appears to be an air brushed '59 model (possibly not even a hightop) while the Pontiac photo is untouched.

The '60 Suburban is my very favorite procar, followed very closely by a limousine-style combination of the same chassis and builder:

I find the rush to get the literature out exceeds the production. I eagerly awaited the 53 flier from the Guy Barnette co only to discover that the car pictured in the 53 add was a 52. no help there

Just a few I already have saved on my PC.

1 - 1940's Isenhoff 'Dualance' Chysler sedambulance ad
2 - 1963 Amblewagon Dodge ad from AFD magazine
3 - Pinner Pontiac ad from AFD magazine (can't remember the year, and it's buried somewhere in a stack)
4 - 1930 Graham Paige article from a Calgary Herald article

I don't know what "today's kind of service" meant, but here is an ad from the February, 1958 issue of The AFD:

Thanks to smaller companies like National, Weller, Memphis, and Armbruster a funeral home owner could buy a matched fleet and still support a local dealer. He could buy an ambulance, combination, and limousine (like the ones seen here) from one of the coach builders and then get his matching wagon and sedan from the man down the street.

Matching fleets could also be offered using cars from the larger coach builders - Superior/Pontiacs from 1962-67 and C/B-Oldsmobiles from 1961-64.

As seen in the first post, chassis and body builder ads were often placed in tandem:

here is one more 53 Barnette add using a 52 car. as Pontiac was dropping the sedan delivery my guess is rather then spend a lot of money in new advertising they just altered the 52 adds. the nice thing about looking at old adds is you get to see the different window treatments and how they change from one model to the next
