Pontiac procar pics

From the land of fender-mounted whistles

I really like this one:

Bieber, CA
1961 S/P 46"

Note the '59 Chevy sedan delivery in the background; I imagine it would cause quite a breeze if offered on eBay today:

Fairfield A.S. (Fairfield, CA)
1967 S/P 48"

A '65 and another '67

This '65 is from Selkirk Ambulance in Selkirk, Manitoba. It had previously come from the province of Quebec. I don't know why I only took a rear shot of this car.

The '67 was owned by 7 Oaks Ambulance in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was purchased used from Sorensen Distributors, previously having seen service in Toronto, Ontario. This is the first ambulance service that I worked for, from Sept. of '70 to mid '71. 7 Oaks was a one-car operation, and rarely had enough business to support even that. In the summer of '71, we were heading to the hospital with 2 patients from a car vs. train collision, when the ambulance was t-boned at an intersection, and then struck a pole. Fortunately, I was the attendant that day. The '67 was out of service for a couple of months, and I had moved on to a much larger service by the time it was repaired.

The third photo is of me as a 19 year old "ambulance driver." I had attained my goal in life!!

Nice shot anyway! Interesting to know that we had those high top somewhere in the province; I saw only one '69 hightop pontiac in Quebec archives. Do you remember where it was used before?

Unfortunately, Martin, I don't know where in Quebec this car served. I only recall that the lettering that was previously on this car left an outline, and by the appearance of the name, it was clearly "au francais!"

Great pictures Terry!

Looking at the '65' it looks like there is a folding cot hanging above the main stretcher.

Also, was that style of rear loading light commun in the earlier Pontiacs? I only noticed them on the Cadillacs. Finally, are those exhaust vents on the back door? I never noticed those on any other cars either.

Jean-Marc, I suspect the unusual rear loading light was a seldom ordered "optional extra." I don't recall seeing them often on any Superior, especially not on a lower priced Pontiac. I have never seen vents of this style in any rear door, so would venture a guess that this was an add-on.

Selkirk Funeral Chapel, to the best of my recollection, started up in the early '70s to compete with the well established Gilbart Funeral Home, who had been in business in Selkirk forever. Both offered ambulance service. When I first saw this '65, I noted that it was in generally poor condition, with lots of bondo, missing mouldings, and non-factory window decals. I believe that it was replaced shortly after with a home made low top Chev van. A quick Google search shows that Selkirk Funeral Chapel is no longer around, but Gilbart is still going strong, although no longer providing ambulance service.

Here is 2 shots of a 1956 Pontiac Memphian ambulance, owned by a private collector who is the 2nd owner. The car have an incredible story and is still original with 7200 miles.

the second shot is with my girlfriend of that time, who loved so much the ambulance that she bought a 50's nurse kit to fit for a car show, back in 2004.

The '53 ?

What's up with the '53 pontiac (short wheel base) and the cp25 speaker? Looks like it has a mechanical siren inside of it...or at least what looks like a rotor.

Just dug these up

'73 Superior 54" - Silver Cross Patient Transport. I took this somewhere in Iowa, possibly Altoona.

'66 Consort Landau. Shot this at a PCS So. Cal. Chapter meet around 2005.

'65 Consort Landau. Auto wrecker in Springfield, IL. Horrible picture taken with a horrible camera.
