Merry Oldsmobiles

Kenosha A.S. (Kenosha, WI)
1974 Cotington 54

This car had a terrible paint job but was solid underneath. Originally light blue, she came from a WI funeral home. I bought it in the fall of 1980, then traded it in the summer of 1981 to Summers - straight across - for my '60 M-M.

nether Olds or Cadillac built any Hearse or ambulances. they were all converted by after market people. more Hearses were built on both chassis then ambulances.

There were several of these cars built with Federal #15A Junior beacons on the corners instead of the usual tunnel lights.

Here's another:

Having four Junior beacons on a C-B was a very popular arrangement on ambulances here in Maryland at the time. I think this was because Miller-Meteors were very popular in the area, with the 4 Ful-Vu lights, but departments that went for something a little less expensive could get a C-B and chose the 4 Juniors to be similar in lighting to the M-Ms.

Here are two from departments I ran with in MD, a '70 from Wheaton, and a '68 from Sandy Spring. Sorry for the bad newspaper photo of Sandy Spring's having been wrecked in 1974, but that is the only known photo of that ambulance, and I went through all the historic photos at SSVFD at one time.

Beverage F.H. (Sandwich, IL)
1973 Cotington 54

This car belonged to an employee of a private ambulance service and was in great shape. Anyone here know her lineage?:

These old 110 prints don't scan well, and being printed on matte paper doesn't help:

Oldsmobile in service

Last week we had a funeral for prominent lady from St. Paul. One of the many special requests associated with the service was that an "old black hearse" be used. So, we pressed Jon Wurm's 1966 Cotner/Bevington Oldsmobile "Cotington" landau back into service. The 'ol girl took her responsibility seriously and performed flawlessly. The fact we had no snow helped matters greatly too. Sure is nice getting to use an old coach by special request; people tend to appreciate the car's presence and elegance. This service was no exception.

A few photos...

most of the flat bed scanners have a de screen or Mat or Mot. ton of different names that will help cut back the Matt finishes news paper hash marks and the like. I keep my older computer with xp program as the scanner I had with it was so good a cleaning up old photos. but the problem is it takes a lot of time to mess with them. we have a thousand family slides we are trying to get copied. not enough time to do it. if one just runs them threw the auto fix program it helps some, destroyed others. this digital stuff is strange and unpredictable.

A pair of '64s.

C/B ambulance last saw service 12 years ago when retired from Cedar Falls Raceway. Last road use was 6 years ago as the brakes need redone. Front floors are good, back coach-built floors have a couple soft spots. Rear bumper is rusty. It is 100% complete down to those (rear) Ful-Vu lights.

Armbruster/Stageway limo was acquired from an estate sale along with several other cars. It is also complete, down to jump seats - and also has a rusty rear bumper.

Tucked away off well-traveled paths in Iowa, the owner will sell (after realization set in of not doing anything with either). $1500 ambulance; $1000 limo - prices are firm. Interested parties can either ping me or send John Royark JR goose chasing. Ha.

Atti.....that Oldsmobile limousine is not an Armbruster. It is an extremely rare Cotner/Bevington Cotington nine-passenger limousine. Now, that's something that should be rescued and restored.
