Indy 500 ambulances

No pictures but...

Conkle Funeral Home is still in business in Speedway, Indiana, the suburban town around the IMS. I saw a hearse at Butler Coach sometime in the early '80s w/ a Poindexter nameplate in the side door. Thought I was imagining that name until I spotted it in Pascal's pictures of the Type I Chevrolet ambulance. There's a Poindexter-McClure FH in Washington and Odon, Indiana, a ways southwest of Indianapolis, maybe the same folks. AID = Ambulance Indianapolis Dispatch. I used to go over the Indy yellow pages with a fine toothed comb in the "ambulance service" and "funeral directors" sections when we were visiting relatives :D. I remember Myers, Parr-Lance, and several others. Back in those days you could count on some nice photos and graphic art in those ads.

Could you contact Conkle and others in Indianapolis to ask them if they have old pictures of their ambulances on the speedway ?
