Carryall ambulance photos

This 1961 National/Chevrolet still exist! I saw it in a parade few years ago!
It certainly does, it's owned by a collector in my area. I just talked to the owner earlier this week. It's fine.

For the Chevy purists among us (and who isn't?), you may be wondering how it can be a '61 but doesn't have the '61 front end. The story is that it's original owner, Reisterstown VFC (in MD) wrecked it sometime around 1965. The front sheet metal was damaged but the rest of the ambulance was fine. They decided to repair it with '65 parts to make it look more "modern".

While the '61 in Steve's post is well preserved, the '56 is not so lucky. It's also owned by a local collector here, but he hasn't done anything with it in recent years and it has deteriorated badly. He and I looked it over and could not find any body manufacturer ID on it.

First ambulance is marked '65 captured in '68, second marked '67 captured in '70. Both units appear to be Visser conversions and each was shot in Amsterdam.

we have seen that one before. but I'm thinking that the county in question is just across the line in Calf. either way it's cowboy country.

Yeah....that reminds me of the days of working rodeos when I had my standby ambulance service up and running. I wonder what the sign on the door "Official business only" means. I can't imagine them transporting an "unofficial" patient!:p

Someone is obviously a little off on the date of the second one, as the 67-72 trucks were radically different fron the 60-66 trucks, although I suppose a cab and chassis could have been delivered as a 67 with the previous styling. GM is noted for doing this on their 1 ton trucks of later years. Regardless, the sheetmetal is pre-67.

both would appear the same year truck. not being up on those old apache's. I can't point out the correct year. but they are the 60 to 66 body

I will say that they did a much better looking roof then any one of the companies here. I wish they had cut off the back row of lites with the door. don't think they add more then they distract. it brakes up the flow. but that was there style.

This 1940 Dodge 1 Ton Panel truck was donated to the Canadian National Railways by members of the CNR Women's Auxiliary of Stratford Ontario. However since the City of Stratford did not have an ambulance at the time, the CNR ambulance would be used on loan to the community as well. It is shown here when new in front of the local Dodge Desoto Garage with some of the lady volunteers from the auxiliary.

Did you get any info on the builder? Looks like a Seibert, but it could've been Canadian-built.
