will this be the new one

So it is not just me? I have been noticing these on the lot in Hartville and think to myself what it would look like as an ambulance...
OK, so we talked about this last Tuesday. Thursday I went to the EMS Today show in Baltimore, and what's there? Yup, the new Spartan "NEAT", an ambulance built from a Ford Transit Connect van. No stretch, no raised roof, no Photo shop by Atti, and no suction cups. In fact, it sorta reminds me of a modern version of the Ambulet! NEAT stands for "non emergency ambulance transport".

You can't see it in the photos, but there's an attendant seat behind the driver's seat.

one could save a bundle on the number of hospital transfers we do around here. that is if the rig equipped were under 50g and it would get over 20 mpg. beets putting 100,000 miles on a 200,000 box at 13 with diesel running over 3 bucks a gl. I would bet it would rid a lot nicer to.

I believe the retail was right around $50 grand. It wouldn't be useful in MD as the EMS regs don't allow for anything less than a BLS ambulance for a transport on a stretcher.

Same here in RI and Mass. Any ambulance used for even routine transfers must be at least a BLS ambulance. These new trucks do seem economical.:myopinion:

the same would be true in Sd it would have to meet the federal specks to transport here. but I would think the longer wheel base one could easily do that. we are spending to much of the taxpayers and the services money on what we are now buying. you could have 4 to one with these

Was the front passenger seat removed to accommodate the cot?
Yes. And guess where they put it? ;)
No doubt some of the wheelchair van converters will offer a Transit Connect ambulette at a more competitive price than Spartan's version.
Well, you could almost do the same thing in your garage for a lot less.

I did think one thing was interesting. Spartan is not an ambulance manufacturer. They manufacture custom truck cabs/chassis for fire apparatus, ambulances (the Spartan Furion), and motorhomes. They don't build a whole vehicle. This is the first time I've seen them "build" a complete piece of apparatus. :lightbulb:

The Spartan Motors unit was at the American Ambulance Association annual conference last December/ front seat area accomodates cot/ not much room -but space is well utilized and quality built/ unit couldn't be licsensed in most states with reasonable regulations

Option....

Well you could certainly go back to having flower trays over the casket....
There is an option on these that will alert you if any of your tools are missing from the truck. I think it's made by DeWalt and the tools have to be DeWalt. I guess its like a house arrest device. For people with horrible memories like me it would save a lot of aggravation. I want to say the option is $1,800.
These are selling very well here in SW FL and I expect a stretch to come out soon. Remember when the Chrysler mini-vans came out around '84? I don't think there was a stretch version for another year or so.
