what am I in need of?

Here is a picture of the ambulance I was talking about in my introductory post. It is very rough but will be restored. Since this photo was taken it has been pulled out of the field and I am currently awaiting parts to finish the engine rebuild.

My question is, is what all models of lights and siren do I need to complete this?

Here is a brochure on ebay to show what it looked like. I have not seen another ambulance like this.

A Lot of Possibilities

An electronic siren was probably the most popular most likely a Federal Interceptor or Director. A Federal 184 or two or four model 14s. It would be round tunnel lights maybe a Mars 888.
Keep the pics coming

?

If I could add to Rons' suggestions, you have a big roof but don't make it too "busy".
For the time a common approach would likely be a Federal Twin Sonic. A good look though would be a Federal 184 mounted on your top roof and if you want a mechanical siren, a Q2B or B & M super chief on the lower front roof.
Best of success and keep us posted.

Look at the roof(s), if it had beacons on it there will be 3 or 4 holes within a 8" diameter circle where each one was located. If it had some kind of lightbar it will have two sets of 2 holes each about 8" apart (from front to back), and about 54" apart in width. If it had an electronic siren you will have three holes (from front to back) within about 8". If it had a mechanical siren a pattern of 4 larger sized holes in a rectangular shape with an additional hole in the middle of that rectangle.

I hope that helps to give you an idea as to what it may have had on it.

Your forward and rear flashers were Weldon lights. I have to get you the part number (someone else jump in if you know, I think it's 1010).

Yes, it's a truck, but we can help out anyway. Care-O-Vans were neat vehicles back in the day, but very few have survived.

rare rig

it my not be a caddy but it is part of the history of ambulance design and you should be proud to restore it! Not many left like it in good shape probably so you may have the a one of its kind left! Will be a unique vehicle. Any idea what colour pattern you will paint it?

An identical Wayne ambulance was used during the shooting of the 4th Friday the 13th. "Friday the 13th, the final Chapter" 1984. Check out and rent the movie, you see it on many angles during approx. 10 minutes at the beginning of the movie. Just after the arrival of a '72 Superior ambulance with a fake life cross !

I think that It is going to be red (keeping with the fire department theme, with a white stripe where the original orange one was. I haven't checked this thread in a while, there is lots of good info here. Thanks to everyone who has responded.

Also, I never got the title to it, so I applied for a duplicate, and had to have the fire chief from the fire department it came from sign it. Turns out they still had one of the original speakers laying around, so I made a donation to their department and got it!

I have also purchased really nice front doors, drivers fender, hood, NOS door nameplates, a federal signal pa200, and a federal signal model 14 beacon.

The mechanicals to the vehicle are all back together, still working out some bugs to get it to fire.

Can anyone else spot whats wrong with the bottom picture?

Off-hand I'd say it's missing the first 'D' in DODGE on the hood and the Indian Head logo above the driver's door.......cool-looking vehicle, though!! Good luck with it...

Not a direct quote from the roster but close: A vehicle with custom coachwork, based on passenger car styling, for use in funeral, livery, or rescue. An example would be limos, hearse, ambulance, a combination, flower car, ETC.

Yup, I was mainly referring to the missing "D" but I did notice the Indian head logo missing. Thought it was kind of funny.

They replaced a single beacon pre-1976 by a Aerodynic lightbar introduced in 1977 ?

I am wondering if this is a field modification, as all of the pics I have seen of them from brochures (all of which are pictured) have a single beacon. I also notice that the ambulance decals are missing as well as there is a dent in the drivers fender as well as down the sides. My guess is that this ambulance was a well used prop by the time this movie was made.

I think its kind of neat someone is restoring these kinds of early Van Ambulances. if we don't..... they will be FORGOTTEN and lost FOREVER !

Good job and good luck
