What a Shame.

I was talking to my mom on the phone today, and she said a friend of hers on FaceBook had posted this. So, I had to try and find it. First of all, let me say that I am a big fan of hot rods and custom cars, but doing this to a classic Pro Car, well, its just wrong. And its a 67 too.:puking::myopinion:

If you notice, its a George Barris creation. And we have no way of knowing what the cars condition was when Barris acquired it and if it even had the three way table in it when he got it. The long and short is: we cant preserve them all. And somewhere along the way, a funeral home decided it was surplus equipment and sold it. We cant control what others outside of our circle do to the cars. We have to accept the fact that other auto hobbyists have different visions that we do.

This Brett Barris creation was built for a movie or show called Gargoils. This is the second reincarnation of this car, which looks alot better than the first version.

let me start by saying that no one loves and respects old procars (esp hearses) as much as I do. I know this topic has been beaten like a dead horse in the PCS conversations. Although I would never street rod a procar, I appreciate the skills used by others when it is done. In my opinion, making a street rod out of an old car is the same as me taking parts off of one old car to restore another! Many times I have stood in a junk yard debating destroying the remains of a once proud car just to rebuild my project. Just recently I purchased the trim parts for a my 1959 S&S that is in the body shop from a man who had a mess of a 60 S&S he was going to street rod. Most people do not have the $75,000 to invest in a 'stock' restoration project and even less have the interest in restoring an old hearse! While I don't like street rodded hearses, that's better then the crusher. I am amazed that so many 'friendly' car people who profess to educated others about procars wouls so harshly judge anothers joy, hard work and hobby! Honestly it makes me question my membership

Nobody's been that harsh on judging these cars in this thread. Some folks said they didn't like it, some folks said they did. There's more than one opinion allowed in the club. With all due respect, if you don't want folks to deny you the right to like a street rod hearse, perhaps you can not deny others the right to dislike it!

I have to say, while I'm not a fan of customizing a pro car, it does look to be a very well built car. Like I said before, I love hot rods and custom cars, its just hard for some of us Pro Car guys to see a Pro Car done like that. But hey, like Rick said, other car guys have different opinions and ideas, and we don't know the condission of the car before it was customized. And, George Barris is the king of customizing. Rick Bill and Steve, thanks for your input. And Bill, I'm sorry if I offended you, I wasn't trying to offend or judge anyone, I was just giving my opinion.

I have to agree with Steve. It seems to me there are some of thin-skinned folks who read this board. First let me restate that the tone of voice is not present in a written message. That said, we are a group of individuals who have differing opinions. Those who think that any one member speaks for us all is certainly misguided. Those folks that want to question their membership just because of a inferred interpretation of one or more posts should take a close look at their own sensitivity. We are not trying to offend by sharing our opinions, nor shall we be shamed into silence.

In case you can't tell this is something that has been bothering me for a while, so I apologize for venting here.

We return you now to your regularly scheduled program. :blahblah:

Steve I agree with you..this thread has been tame, but this issue comes up everytime a street rod shows up and it's not always nice. I am not thinned skinned and not offended. I have my thoughts and you have yours, truth is, we are more of the same mindset then not. I just get tired of the same old conversation over and over.

I never said I don't like modified hearse. I don't care for modified ambulances, they have plenty of modification to start with. I really hate seeing a 3-way with the table removed. The main reason is I really want a 3-way. I have only seen a couple in person.

3 Ways

I, have a 62,68,69,83:3some: .The 69 sold I ,am keeping the 68 and 62 have the 83 for sale if interested.

I must agree with John that the current car looks MUCH better than the first version!!! It's still a little over the top for me but I do think it IS at least improved. I looked at the other pictures of this car and "I" prefer it with black primer and steel wheels!! Don't care for the blower (if it's even real??) and since I do like chop tops "I" think it might have looked a bit better with the entire roof chopped to the same height front to back rather than raked. It turned my stomach to see what had been done to my friend Tims former '69 MM within the last 5-8 years because THAT was an extraordinary nice car and was also "recently" done, this one was done in the 80's before there were as many people such as us who REALLY enjoy them!!

Josh, Jerry, and others:

There's no need to apologize for your opinion...ever. It is something that is uniquely yours and that you're free to share. On the other hand, everyone else has the right to differ with said opinion. If they disagree or even get offended, then you can't help that. Take your stand, and then stick with it!

I find this particular car interesting and would even photograph it for my collection. However, it violates everything the PCS stands for and should never be allowed to participate in a PCS-sanctioned function.
