Bulk mailings are packed in groups based on the zip codes that they are going to. The entire groupings are dropped at a postal distribution center, and are then sent from there to the various regional distribution centers. From the Regional distribution center, they are sorted, and then sent to the individual post office that handle the town where you live for delivery. Since this is a bulk magazine mail delivery, it moves slowly, based on how much room is on the truck that is carrying it forward. If the truck is full of 1st class and other higher paying postage mail, then magazines are held over for the next truck. There is never a reason that can be determined why one area will get the magazine sooner than the next area, because it never is consistent. Every area of the country has delays, and some are longer than others. Once it gets to the local post office, they sort bulk mail only after all the 1st class mail is sorted. This can add a day or two to the process. The only solution to this problem that I can see is to have magazines delivered by 1st class mail at additional cost to the member requesting this feature. I intend to bring this up for discussion at the annual board meeting. If it goes to a 1st class mailing, that will have to be an extra cost option over and above membership dues. Many car clubs offer this feature to their members, and I can't see why we shouldn't either. What the cost difference will be, I can't say, but my guess is that it might be an additional $5.00 - $7.00 per year. Some of these additional costs will be in packaging and separate handling costs, and the balance will be the additional postage.
