Towing Capacity

Thought you all might like a little update. Bought a sweet set of four wide whitewalls at a swap meet for $120 and they're in excellent shape. So I yanked the wheels off the Scotty, sandblasted & painted them. Snatched up a set of skinny stainless trim rings & put it all together. VERY happy with the way this little thing is headed!!! Also painted the lowest section of the door side to see it with some fresh color. I had Lowes mix up a quart of Valspar enamel "nautical" paint (that's the color name) from a sample card... best $14 a guy can spend for this project! What do you think?

I thought about painting it like the "command center" Scotty i'd linked for you earlier in this thread, but really like the original turqoise/white color combo and decided to make it an original retro-looking camper that'll look good behind any of the procars or whatever it's pulled with.
Have you had any luck finding an old camper yet? You already have your hands full with the ambulances you're restoring so what's one more project!

After a reality check (available space and money), I've decided to put my attention in the 67 first, however, if I can convince Susan to sell the house and move to the country where we could get a larger garage, I may reconsider.....

Simply fantastic, as usual you have come up with another hit.

Thanks Danny! Ebay has been good to the Scotty, bought all new NOS marker light lenses for $2.50 apiece so next will be repairing all the lighting & getting the new lenses on. Todd gave me a set of round LED tail lights in rubber grommets (like for a semi trailer) and i'm recessing them in the original holes. The originals died a horrible death years ago & someone screwed on a set of cheapo utility lights. After seeing the fresh turqoise wheels & lower section painted, I think i'm going to go ahead & paint the top sections with the turqoise & then the rest in white after fixing some dents & screw holes. It was a surprise to see how nice it looked... i've been doing this stuff in the shop so pulling it out yesterday in daylight was a treat to see it from a distance!

Nothing screams vintage to me like an Airstream. If you could get your hands on a vintage Airstream or Airstream Bambi they are very light and I have seen them as EMS mobile centers, nasa crew carriers, and even military command centers before. If my hard drive had not died last year I would have pictures of a few from a parade a long time ago.

I agree with you Douglas, i've owned several old Airstreams. Actually I bought every old one I could find in the region & hustled them for profit several years ago. Even the 24 foot Tradewinds tow excellent for being a single axle. The Bambi models are a gold mine, they bring more $$$ than the other sizes. It all started with a 1971 Tradewind that was gutted, yet the people on the Airstream websites went crazy over it. That started a very profitable venture... buy them cheap & triple your money after a quick wash & detail job. The Canada guys went bezerk over them & paid top dollar but it all got too complicated delivering them to Windsor after 9/11 so I got out of it... but still look all the time for a Bambi just sitting somewhere waiting to be rescued!
