Thank You, Rick Franklin

First off, Rick thanks in advance for the photos. We should be seeing them later today. We are going to Bucyrus and meet up with Dwayne, Caprice (love that name), Jim & Sharon and we're gonna go looking at old fire trucks. Great day!!!

Next, I was poking around on a map/satellite program that I have and found the "shops" where Ringling Bros. trains are based. It can be accessed as follows:

go to www.bingmaps.com, enter this address: 1313 17th. St. E., Palmetto, FL.

Towards the upper right side find the "Roads" icon, click it

In the drop box, click on "Birds Eye View", making sure that both "show labels" and "show angled view" are active.

Once it pops up, you can zoom in and out, rotate the view, and move up and down, and side to side. Quite a few train cars there in various states of repair. A couple of what appear to be tents for painting, and lots of buildings. I don't knoiw for sure if this is where the entire circus is based, but most assuredly the trains are based there.

Enjoy!

There was a real good article about the construction of the Ringling Bros. circus train cars in a recent issue (within the past year) of Trains magazine. Check it out!

I know this thread is a couple years old, and started on a different subject, and before we had a train sub forum, but today I was in the Arena District again waiting on some equipment to be delivered, and heard a train blow its horn so I looked up, and it happened to be the Ringling Brothers train. I forget the line, but I want to say the lead engine was NS, followed by a different engine that was orange and black. Didn't count the cars at first, but when I started thinking "geez, this is a long train" I started counting and got up to 23 when it ended. Judging by the time that had passed, I'm guessing the whole thing was at least 60 cars or more. Thought of Jim when I saw what it was.

Todd, thanks a bunch for pulling this old thread back up. Quite a trip down memory lane, "visiting" with old friends along the way. Sweet memories of days gone by......THANKS a million!!!
