rough '38 Flxible Buick Premier Classic A

Recently acquired out of Mexico by a member on a different forum that started looking for info and is planning on restoring. (Cast carvings are gone.) He found a Flxible copy on Amazon that has not arrived yet. Questions for (mainly) Keith, which aren't covered in book:

Do Tom's Flxible records go back this far? If so, who was original purchaser?

If 45 Premiers were made in '38, how many of them were Classic A (as opposed to Classic AA)?

Thanks for posting this along with the photos. I sent this on to Tom McPherson who replied as follows:
"Regarding the Flxible you sent information on this morning....this is somewhat exciting. 1938 was the first year for this particular style from Flxible. The car Is a model 68-9A. That is a Premier Classic A carved panel end-loading funeral car on a Buick Series 60 (Century) chassis which originally retailed for $3,555. Of approximately 254 Buick-based Flxible's built in 1938 there were only about 45 on the Series 60 chassis - the majority were based on the popular Buick Series 40 (Special) chassis. This makes this a rare survivor and the fact that it's a Classic A makes it even rarer and more desirable. In 1938, Flxible constructed 35 Classic A funeral cars of which 21 were mounted on Buick chassis. The order for this car was received in Loudonville on January 7, 1938. The car was built for Johns Service in Birmingham, Alabama and delivered on March 5, 1938. This car was Flxible's body number 2759 with frame number 13304486 and motor number 63481802. This is truly an interesting and rare car and one worthy of a restoration."

I hope that this gives the owner some additional information on this rare vehicle and that he will get it restored.
 
Hey, wow!! This makes 3 of these Carved Flxibles that I know to have survived. A 38 "A" out of Louisiana that was restored, mine (40 "AA") and this one. Have the owner get in touch with me, some of my carvings are missing but I can duplicate what I need with what I have left. Could probably run off two just as easily as one.

Your '40, or another? I think these pics came from eBay some time ago, and it's the only other I've ever seen...

Yup, that's mine. More pics are at www.b26marauder.com/toybox The other one I mentioned, that was restored, was on evil-bay probably three or four years ago. If memory serves, it was restored by a fellow who passed away and his family/heirs had it up for sale. I think they wanted ~20K for it. I saved the listing, and all the pics for reference for my eventual restoration of mine, but they're on another computer.

I have no idea whatever eventually happened to that one. I remember it was an "A", which had the Carved panels inset in the rear windows. The "AA"s like mine and this one had beveled French glass in the windows.

Edit to add: The restored one was flat-out BEAUTIFUL. If I remember right, it was painted a gorgeous shade of dark blue.

Hello Jase, I own The 38 Flxible Classic A,Can you contact me about the craving's, I really can't believe your's still has them on it I'm sure someone sold the ones off mine for scrap,,,,,crazy Do you have the parts that or missing in the picture's?
