Real Life Incident 7-11-13

Was out cruising around town last evening when the fire department was dispatched to a traffic accident. So I responded too. This is on Weaver Lake Road bridge over I-94. Sorry for the poor quality of photo taken on a cell phone.

Here we see David Blaine's grandfather appear to levitate a gurney into ambulance. (Note shorter man has right hand holding low, appearing at his side for a nice illusion.) Talleyville Fire Co undated. From this angle, reverse lens combined with not seeing exhaust exiting under coach adds up to being a '52-'53 Superior.

I think the illusion is just a funny angle which fools the camera. The guy has his hand on the cot bar, it just wraps around and is out of sight. Where his hand would be if it were straight is the front wheel of the cot. The whole thing would be out of balance if the shorter guy didn't have a good grip with both hands.

But then again, that's how David Blaine does his "tricks" - illusions which fool the camera. ;)

I like the nice old New Bedford rigs. New Bedford is "next door" to my dad's home town...Fall River, MA. The only time I got to see an ambulance up that way was in Jan. '68 when my grandmother died. Across the Taunton River from Fall River is Somerset, and on the bridge between the two is (or was) a nice Italian restaurant that was all glassed in. While we were at the restaurant, a local ambulance came right past all lit up...a new lowtop M-M ambulance with red full-vues on all four corners and a 184 rear center. My first-ever experience with that sort of light package.

Skip you are talking about Magoni's Restaurant. They are still open.

I worked as a Paramedic Field Supervisor for the City of New Bedford for about four years. My current part time job in Swansea Mass. began with an ambulance donated from the George Alden Ambulance in the 1950's.
