pickers

I for one was disappointed with the funeral home finds. I thought there would have been some really old cool stuff. And lots of it. I did see the twin to my friends 51 Jeep wagon in the driveway.
My personal opinion is there is no reality when it comes to anything on TV. My wife thinks the pickers should come to my garage. I think I will double lock the doors if I see a picker truck.

We had this discussion a while back about how the show "American Pickers" is made. A lot of folks had ideas of what goes on "behind the scenes".

I was watching it tonight - I know it's not as spontaneous as it seems, but I still watch - and they featured a tailor shop in PA. I was curious where it was, so I Googled it.

What came up was a very interesting newspaper article about the making of that episode. The article details what really goes on behind the scenes and how things are arranged before Mike and Frank "arrive".

If you like the myth of the show, don't read the article. If you want to get an idea of how it's made, here's the link to the article.

The newspaper article mentions an item that the guy did not sell to the Pickers because it was a gift. As you can imagine, that did not appear on the TV episode.

Did you ever notice, whey they are "freestyling" and just happen to stop in at a random house on a random road, that 1) nobody ever points a shotgun at them and says, "Get off my land!", and 2) nobody ever squeals, "OhMyGodIt'sMikeandFrank! I watch you all the time and now you're at my house!!!! I gotta call Mabel!!!"

Canadian pickers is our show and in no way like american pickers, our guys are a couple of ding dongs if you ask me,a friend works at a large antique market in Cambridge,Ont.she stated after 20 minutes of their arrival they were asked to leave the establishment, she states real collectors have manners and a sense of fair play, can not write what she said about these 2,but it wasn't nice..

There is a similar show on the National Geographic channel called Abandoned. In short, the guys of that show go to abandoned buildings and wander around looking for whatever might be left behind, and then try to strike a deal the current owner of the property for whatever they might have found of interest.

One episode had them visit what's left of the Pabst Brewery complex in Milwaukee. The current owner of the property gives tours through it, and I've taken the tour. The tour starts with a video of television clips, starting with old television commercials from the 1950s up thru the 1980s, and then finishes with various clips of the Pabst property making the news in more recent years. Part of the video is scenes from the episode of Abandoned.

The tour guide, who happened to be the owner himself when I was there, gave a narration during the Abandoned clips, saying how this was staged, how that wasn't how it really happened, etc. It was certainly interesting to hear the backstory from someone who was actually involved in their staged "reality".

trust me there is no reality in reality TV. it's kind of like asumming it's worth that becaue BJ sold one for that. I can't watch it. if I want to be BS I'll drop down to the water hole.

I'm with John on this one.....I hate Reality shows Nothing and I mean NOTHING is real. Its show time ! thats all it is if they don't have an item for the show they will bring one in just for the show ! ever wonder why you never see money change hands ?????

The only thing these show provide is 15 minutes of fame
I would rather watch hours and hours of BBC's TOP GEAR ( not the American one) thats crap ! sorry but it is

then watch 15 minutes of any so called reality show

:beatdeadhorse5: OK I'm done

i have to say that i watch the american pickers, knowing thats its all scriped tv, we are in the antique business up here and iam not rich from it, these shows bring a lot of false info if you think your stuff is valuble. but one postive thing its making people aware of valuer, and not just dumping their items

About 10 years ago I was exhibiting my '54 Eureka hearse at Motor Muster, Greenfield Village, Dearborn Michigan. (I exhibit something there every year.) A man came up to me, we started talking hearses. He handed me his card, turned out to be Ardeen. Sure surprised the heck out of me that someone from TX would be there! But we had a nice talk.
