Pickers= History Channel

Pickers is scheduled to visit "A Funeral Director who NEVER throws anything away" this week.

Promo quotes an Aardean in Texas whom I'm assuming is Mr. Vaughn who has the Million dollar Kennedy hearse if memory serves me.

It's one of my Fav shows.

What day and time?

Looks like it will be on twice this week:
Monday, Aug 8, 9/8c
Wednesday, Aug 10, 8/7c

"Frank's Pacemaker"
Thousands of miles from home, the guys are scouring the back roads of Texas desperate to find the big-ticket item that will make the long trip worthwhile. Just like his late father, Aardean is a funeral director who never throws anything away. And with everything from neon crucifixes to an embalming table with an incredible history, the guys are dying to dive in! On a mission to preserve the history of the telephone, Don's jaw-dropping personal museum includes over 200,000 rare items. Featuring room after room of vintage signs, toys and mantiques, Susan's suburban home is packed to the rafters with Americana. The good news is she's downsizing and everything is for sale, but the bad news is the guys still haven't found that big-ticket item. After touring Cecil's awesome vintage car collection, the guys get access to his "toy box." Making a series of great deals, Mike leaves Frank in the dust. That is, until the "bearded charmer" spots a rare scooter and makes his move.

What day and time?

Mondays @ 9pm on The History Channel. Awesome show!
(they have found several horse-drawn hearses in past episodes)

Here's an excerpt from their website about Monday's show:

I saw the preview for this last week, Pickers is my favorite show. I try to watch it every week, wether its a new one or a rerun. Its a adictive show.

American Pickers has moments, is decent enough to watch - albeit for different reasons. You do realize the show is vastly fake, right..? Fake 'finds' that are borrowed and moved on property in advance. Fake 'buys' on camera that never actually happen. Fake scripted dialogue. Fake estimated values. Made for TV; not genuine.

For all the dumbed-down-for-the-masses non-real production that goes into the show, Frank's repetitive one liners are considerably worse.

Of course I'll still watch tomorrow. ;)

I was told that they each get $25,000 per episode, so they have to give the producers something for the money... even if it is fake. Just like the program that is presently running, Storage Hunters. I know of a fellow that has been buying storage lockers for more than 20 years, and he has never had the consistent luck that the television program shows. The sad thing about this is that some unsuspecting person is going to think it is all real and start buying storage lockers hoping to strike it rich. The odds are about the same as buying a lottery ticket..

You would think that if they are asking $1,500,000 for this car, that the least that they could do would be to put the correct molded rubber upper heater hose on instead of the "fits all" hose it presently wears. Also, the brake vacuum booster has been painted, and it should be a gold iridite color. Must not be much wiggle room in the asking price for them to fix the obvious problems of originality....

trust me there is no reality in reality TV. it's kind of like asumming it's worth that becaue BJ sold one for that. I can't watch it. if I want to be BS I'll drop down to the water hole.

Fake show or not, there is some really interesting stuff on there, that alone is worth watching it for. By the way, Mike has opened a shop in Nashville, and has also bought a house just outside Nashville.

Attila is correct about reality shows.

I have been on them and have also rented a hearse and coffin to one for a Halloween episode.

EVERYTHING WAS SCRIPTED !

They tell you what to do and say just before filming each shot.
No need to read a script before so you could remember your lines.
The people are real, unlike real actors remembering what to say by reading their scripts in advance.

Still fun to watch any of these type of shows !!!
American or Canadian Pickers, Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, Oddities, etc.
....because we all have the same incurable disease
....collecting old and unusual stuff !

I will be watching tonight as well !!!

Enjoy,
Darren

Neat segment. I was hoping to see more funerary items, but the stuff they did show was cool. I like the neon crosses and the "Wyatt Earp" embalming table and tools. There is probably no way to document that it is the real thing, but still a good find.

Definitely worth watching on Wednesday for those of you that missed it."Vaughan Trading Company" is shown during the first 12 minutes or so of the episode.

Neon crucifixes "valued" at $200 each would cost over $800 each to fabricate (being cast). And original is always worth more than new.

This portion of the show annoys the crap out of me. Just like the KFC retirement pin purchased for $40 "valued" at $75 that sold for $500.

Remember that Harley Davidson JD I-beam springer purchased outside New Orleans for $400? "Valued" at $750? Never reproduced in US. Buy a quality reproduction in Germany for $2700 + shipping...!

Dumbed down for the American masses. But hey~ They don't want to alienate people they actually pick from when the show airs. They don't want the common viewer to realize how easy it is to do what they do. Plus, they like hiding untaxed profit.

Their shop in Le Clair, Iowa is just a couple hours from me. Ive been wanting to stop, I have a friend who went there and said they have alot of cool stuff there. He didnt get to see Mike or Frank, they were off filming somewhere, but he did get a pic with Danielle :thumb:. One thing my friend found out, they do not drive all over, they fly to the destination and someone else brings the van. They only start driving after they get close to where they are going.

The show didn't air in Canada.
I was told it could be a week or two behind the US. :4_11_9:

I will see if I can catch it next week. :clubem: :badbad:
