Ordinarily, I am not to excited about truck-style ambulances, but I like this one! https://www.ebay.com/itm/234203593663?hash=item36879f3bbf:g:mNwAAOSwrxRhTQPO
1986 Ford E350 Supervan 4x4 4WD. 33,500 miles V8 460. Solid. Runs out well and drives well. Shifts into 4wd with ease. Clean CarFax.
Van was sold out of Don Reid Ford in Florida. I have the original dealer sales pamphlet with Ford Econoline owner’s manual, Ford literature and pamphlets.
The ambulance build out was done by Frontline Emergency Vehicles in Florida who still supports their build outs. I have the Frontline operating manual (binder) which includes wiring schematics, specifications,…
The 4x4 conversion was completed by Four Wheel Drive Specialty Co. in Richmond Virginia for the Smith River Rescue Squad. I have the warranty certificate dated November 24, 1986 and the milage was 1,498 at time of build. This shop is still in business.
The van was fleet maintained and operated by the Smith River Rescue Squad from 1986-2016. The undercarriage is so solid I do not believe this was operated in the winters or maybe there is not much salt used in the Western part of Virginia.
Fresh less than 50 miles on Ford Motorcraft spark plugs, distributor cap and spark plugs. Ford original parts.
The van has been in NJ/NY since 2017. I have clan NY title in my name.
This past March we took a 2.5 hour ride to ski Belleayre. The van has a hit at the mid-lodge parking lot tailgating for lunch. The van got a 3 hour bubble bath afterwards to rinse off the road salts.
As you will see in photos and videos the sheetmetal is solid with some surface rust where there are paint chips. To prevent further rust it is best to touch up those areas. The white body color is code 9M Colonial White. The beltline is Nitchwatch Blue SC9. The van paint is deep, looks sharp and only has 1 shallow dent on passenger’s door. You will see shadow of “Smith River Rescue” decals on fiberglass top and on blue beltline. There are surface hairline scratches on blue paint where someone got aggressive taking decals off. All this can be wet sanded off but I wasn’t looking for pretty. The truck wash guys but tire shine even after I told them to omit it. Not trying to doll this up. We wanted a big 4x4 to ski, tow quads, camp,… I have gone another direction dumping over $20,000.00 (without cost of bed camper) building a regular cab 8 foot bed Tundra with a Supercharger, modified suspension, and proceeds of this Ambulance will be a deposit towards a custom aluminum expedition slide in bed camper.
In few excursions we have taken, his van has given me no troubles in the year+ that I have owned it. It always starts and has two batteries with a disconnect switch. I had a shop install new carpet in the cab– see photos of metal floors in cab no rust in floors. The front bucket seats are comfortable. The driver’s seat bottom is splitting. The voltage, temperature gauge and fuel gauges work. All gauges illuminate at night including the transmission shift indicator. Both fuel tanks work. Clean windshield. Windows roll up and down with ease, with great tilt out vent windows. All doors open and close easily. The dome lights turn on when you open any door. No odors. Clean sanitary cargo compartment. There is a rear air exhaust ventilation system that works. The dash a/c doesn’t blow cold, and the rear cargo area a/c turns on and feels like it blows cooler but both will need servicing.
For the scale of the vehicle it tracks very well and has excellent road manners. See my videos crossing a windy 3 mile bridge over open water passing tractor trailers at 65 mph with one hand gently on the steering wheel. A Ford 2019 uHaul rental drives sloppier.
Other upgrades include low milage LT265/75R16 tires installed 4 years ago with alloy wheels. PLEASE NOTE there is slight rub of front tires when turning full radius and there is down pressure on front end. Outside of front tire will rub metal inner fender by door. I point it out in video. Only happens slow speeds, full turn and leaning into a real slow sharp turn. A recent new CURT trailer hitch, 7-way plug and trailer brake controller. The red rooftop light lenses were replaced with clear lenses. Very bright LED light bars were added over the passenger area roof and front bumper. The fiberglass top is in great shape.
I have both the pillar spotlights but I think they are missing parts must make sense to go with LED today.

This van does not leave puddles of fluids or blow clouds of smoke out the exhaust or have any exhaust leaks.
I consider my asking price reasonable allowing others to budget a few bucks to do what they want, additional maintenance, camper build out…
There are 4 lap belts or seat belts in the back. Has taken us to mountains and beach.
Front hubs are easy to turn and lock. Exhaust has a nice tone to it, not heard in cab. There is a sliding divider between passenger area and cargo area.
Not a Quigley. Not a Sportsmobile.
Bike rack and beach cruiser not included.
Thanks.
Sale is As-IS. I wrote a novel and displayed 15 minutes of video, I have been completely transparent but buyer needs to be aware that vehicle is 35 years old, will need a repair over time and will show a blemish. I have sold over a dozen of my classics here on eBay – all satisfied buyers. Check my feedback below.
If you are flying in for pick up, I will provide a good sized cooler, a new sleeping bag, a new pillow, a folding camping chair, a rechargable LED lantern, a clean sleeping pad, a 12V cigarette lighter charger with a USB port, and two full tanks 93 octane gas.
