New paint on the Lifeliner-AGAIN!!!

I'm sure ya'll are tired of seeing my Lifeliner but, here I go again. I wanted to have a nice looking car for the Ohio International Meet so off to MACCO (this time) to have it repainted. I have to tell you, I'm very impressed!

Paul feels my gas mileage will be horrible since I've painted it so many times I have probably added a thousand pounds to the weight. Funny man that Paul.

Richard

Funny line on how long it will last ! 2-3 hours !
I'm sure it will look good until after the PCS meet in Hudson.

Enjoy the ride,
Darren

Looking darn good Richard! I for one never get tired of seeing it. It does look to be a shade or 2 darker, but looks darn good. Oh by the way, I'm not seeing a post from Jeremy.:confused2:
I like that name plate in the back window by the way. Never noticed that before.
Josh

Well I guess Mr. Ledford pulled his post. I'm sure I didn't imagine it. It is a shade darker trying to rich the color up a bit.

Richard, I think your Lifeliner is looking real fine. I had my '67 Miller Meteor ambulance done at Maaco and I was very happy. No matter how much you spend, you can always find flaws, especially on these big mamas!

Wow! New 'Vette, new paint on the Bambulance, next thing ya know you'll be getting a little nip n' tuck yourself! Mid-life crisis? :wowguy:

Seriously, it looks good.

Jon

all those base coats you had on there when they sanded it out it filled all the flaws. now most of us just use primer surface for that but you got to be different. the maco job just depend on why has the gun on that day. I have see some grate stuff and some vary poor stuff come out of them. you can help a lot by removing a lot of the stuff yourself.but still luck of the draw. she looks good here.

Richard...Looks great.

I must confess a little of my Bodyman background lasted all of five days at a newly opening Maaco facility in Louisville Ky.

The franchise owner was unseen and the virgin manager had a background as a Barber.

Since I was still in Bodyshop school I was hired as a prep person. My Instructor laughed when I proudly told him I'd attained my first real Body Shop job. He told me me if I took more than 15 minutes taping/masking I would be slow.

The Painter was introduced as the "Best Spray Guy" they were able to hire. Great recomendations. He lasted 5 minutes in the Spray booth. Maaco at that time sprayed at a very high air pressure and we spent the rest of the day washing the car's paint off with thinner. The second and third painter were no better.

Our next car was a 50's "Baby" T-Bird I spent a whole day sanding and prepping that thing mostly because we had no other cars in the pipeline while wondering why an owner would subject his Baby to an economy paint job.

I finished the week and went home to get called the following Moday at 5:00 am to be told "Don't bother to come in."

I enjoyed their paid time off/unemployment vacation for a few weeks.

Compared to my other paint and body man, MACCO was like a Ed Renstrom. I did catch them at a slow time which I think translates into a nice looking paint job.

We'll see how this one holds up but we all know until you actually do an "Renstrom" on it, it will always be an issue.

:boo:

the key is what is underneath. that's always the problem. the paint only protects what is underneath it. what underneath it is what keep the paint on. now a small spot show up. if one fixes that spot and can spot paint it back it will keep a long time. but I have found keeping it to a small spot on these cars is a trouble. if your unable to spray the car your self then getting it ready and having them spray it is one way to get it done. we don't have that option here as they don't even have a franchise in the state. so shade tree it is. nothing fancy about what we are doing here. I'm not trying to make a living at it so it it take a little long they it takes a little longer. the difference between a professional and a amateur is the professional recognised that there is a problem, goes back and re does the problem the amateur just says oh well do better next time. the quicke job gets a sand over the problem and painted that's what they are paied to do.

I picked up the left over paint from MAACO and stopped by a paint supply company that can make me matching paint in spray cans. Since I didn't have the door jams done I'll use this to finish it off. New headliner due to be installed later this month, just the front. I also had magnetic signs made to match orginial signage to be used while in Hudson. I just have to cruise over to the HIGGINS Funeral Home for a visit.

Anxious.....

Here's what the original signage looked like. I also hope to have the three storks delivering babies repainted on the car as well.

Chief Ron, see that beautiful blue MICHIGAN logo in the reflection? Now that Tressel is gone we may have a chance beating OSU this year. "GO BLUE"
