Neutral Safety Switches

that being said why could i not get the s137 switch to turn on the back up lights? i will have to play with it some to make sure the contacts are good.

you ever wounder what was in one of these. not much .the tag has the spring loaded contacts. the slug is the sliding vacuum port. when it's in the right position it shifts the vacuum were it is needed. then the plastic cover has the mail splices cast in and the the slides. we glued this one back together as all the tabs are broken off . the key part in rebuilding one is use some vacuum grease on the sliding slug and a little contact grease on the electrical side. the thug to watch for is loosing the springs or one of the contact shoes. there are tabs and holes so you can't get the cover on wrong. then a little glue on the mating surfaces and the clamp to compress the springs till it sets up. your never out anything trying to fix a broken part. .

Ed... send it to me, and I will test it out to see how well and how long it will work.. :D I will even send you my non working one back to you.

But this is the one we had on yours. So unless the hog rings ere loose the back up lights did not come on. I'll send it out and see if thats what happened.

That thing looks like it has had a hard life! Why is that hole in the sliding lever broke out/damaged like that?

Picked up 2 more of these today. One was a part number 1994063 and the other was a part number 1994137. Oddly enough, both came out of '71 Cadillacs!

As Paul wrote on page one of this thread: "the parts catalog lists 69-73 as the same switch. Group 4.054 part number 1994063. Some where along the line, they changed the part number to 1994137, but still listed for those years.
