Long Road Trip

been there done that. that pull out of salt lake on 80 is something. you didn't drop down to see the JFK car? should be at around 6000 ft now heading for Sherman hill at 9000. that bust on Lincoln on the top is something to see. traffic is running heavy with the start of tourist season. try that rout with 60 mph wind, sub 0 temps and no one one else around. got blow ed off just east of you in DEC one year

WIsh I had alittle warning about that first hill on 80 as I almost didn't make it over that one. WOW what a climb. I drove from salt lake city, UT to Hays KS. today which was about 500 miles in the old ford and it was long and hard. Hays is 159 miles from colorado border on 70. The whole trip I had a constant 45 mph wind hitting my passenger side of truck which also made for hard driving.

lucky in Wy it was only 45. I have seen simis slid across the interstate and tipped over in the medium with the wind. not a fun place to drive. but salt lake is at 0 elevation and Evenston is at 6000. I think they are some were around 100 miles apart. it could have been worse you could have been going down.

Landed for the night at 600 miles today. Left Hays KS. at 7:30am and arrived in Mt Vernon, IL. at 6:30pm. Hope to arrive at Harrodsburg, KY noonish tomorrow for at least part of the Volunteer chapter meet. That will be about 250 miles from here.

Wow! What a trip! Funny you were talking about snow in the mountains... you drive all that way to central Kentucky, where its 95 degrees! Fun, fun... Hopefully you make it okay buddy. I guess I'll see you tomorrow!

Made it home a few ago. Ended up 2600 miles and except for truck running alittle warm on some of the mountains went very well. Thanks for all the input and thoughts while I was on my journey. Had a great time in KY at volunteer chapter meet too.
