Lifeliner Overall Height

Dear PCS Friends,

I am on the way to let build a new 3 car garage here in Switzerland.Do the fact that constructions in Switzerland are very expensive and i don't want to have trouble with the neighbours i cant build the garage to high. My dream is to own a Cadillac Lifeliner on day. So i have to build the door high enough to pass with such a fantastic Ambulance one day. I know from books or brochures that the height is aroud 79.5 inch. But this is without the beacons or sirens.Could anybody tell my the height with all the "goodies" on the top?

Thanks for your help ! Gérard

I would build it with as high and wide of a door that your codes will allow. I have found that an 8' high door is too close for my comfort zone, so I changed mine to a 10' x 10' door in the front of the garage. The garage is a drive through with a 9' x 9' door in the rear. The 10' x 10' replaced a 8' high x 9' wide door. My inside hight is 12', and it isn't high enough to put a high top ambulance on the lift and be high enough to walk under it. If I were to build the garage again, I would have a 16' or 18' height, so I could park another car under the one on the lift. It is expensive to build, but it is more expensive to remodel once it is built. Build it as big as you can afford, and the town will allow the first time, because you never have enough garage space.

Mr. Zenklusen-Ott,

You expressed concerns of cost and height limitations. Five years ago, we built a garage to house our professional cars, including our 1975 Lifeliner. To accommodate the high-top ambulances, we installed 8-foot tall garage doors, which have been more than adequate. Our rig is equipped with lights, antennas, and a backboard box on the upper roof. Plenty of clearance.

Good luck with your project!

Thanks !!
