I am about to become Richard Vyse's hero.

Richard, all you have to do is write Steinberg a check for his '69 M-M, get some yellow paint, and you're on your way.

I have no idea how LARGE the check might have to be, mind you... He MIGHT not even notice his M-M is missing since his attention has been focused on a certain Pinner and a certain C/B.

Too late to be bought........ C/B is in negotiation, and Pinner is promissed... I have moved onto collecting bedpans......

It was Groves that went back into ambulance service after its purchase by the unlicensed Jim Alonzo (Bruno) Burnett in 1977. He was broke and out of both businesses by 1980. The one hundred thousand dollar purchase of those three ambulances didn't help. This long unknown photo was taken by PCS member Bill Blanchard who was kind enough to share it with me and in turn with all of you. Here is previously unseen photo of one of those cars on a call in 1978.

I remember seeing one of these running a call in April of 1978; I believe it had a #28 as well as the electronic siren.

I just love the picture of this ambulance which has taken me down memory lane over and over again. Let me tell you a story of when I got to drive it for the very first time, or at least I thought I was.
It was about 2 in the morning and the call came in. FINALLY it was my chance to drive. I couldn't sleep knowing my time had come so when the bells went off, I headed to the rig. As I sat there with lights on for about 5 minutes I radioed in that we needed to go. I glance over and see the other two guys laughing their a$$es off through the window. Turns out they were playing a funny on me. Mean people. Obviously I did get to drive and during my tenure I never wrecked a Zelley Ambulance. I did wreck an Alert Ambulance but only once.
The synapses in my brain have been working overtime since seeing this picture tickling areas in my brain that have not been aroused in a very long time. :applause:

There was a 69 M-M on eBay not too long ago Ron Devies was looking at and it would have been perfect for this project. I talked extensively with Terri but it was a "No-Go" with her. I have learned to pick my battles. ;)

so Richard this kind of thing have been happening to you all along. I thought we were the only one that loved you enough to pick on you. one has to make choices in life. do you want a orang and white 54 or a yellow 48. how about a yellow 54 your going to paint it anyway and then you close but it's yours not theres.

Funny you mention that Ed. I was just talking to Paul about doing that very same thing with my Lifeliner. Even though it is not the correct year it would be perfect to transistion into the old Zelley Ambulance. NOT! Nope, not going to happen. If I were to run across a 69 and able to do it, I would make it into the Zelley Ambulance.

I do have a tendency to bring on self-inflicted taughts!! :specool:

Another one for Devies.....

It has those same sidelights.

Brady and Richard,
Is that shot across the street from Holy Rosary on Richfield Road?
I did a trade with my cousin Adam for his 1964 Olds Starfire rag, so the 57 75 is probably now available to funeral families through the Miles Martin Funeral Home. Gets me a new mild project, but keeps the Caddy in the family!

I am telling ya.............

Michigan is THE ONLY place you see those funny looking lights! Who makes them?

Yellow?

Is it just the transition of the original picture that makes the color look like burnt orange? I understood the Zelley Units were a very bright Chrome-Corvette type Yellow? (*) In the 60-70's Yellow Cab Ambulance Company in Louisville, KY ran a large fleet of "burnt orange" Cadillac Ambulances (same color as Yellow Transit Company of the same era) under contract to the City of Louisville Police Dept. The Louisville PD had a large number of Two Officer Staffed Ford Station Wagons with Federal Q's on the RF Fenders that would make the initial reponse to any TC within the City.... then always transported by a Yellow Cab Cadillac Ambulance to area hospitals.
