I am about to become Richard Vyse's hero.

Brady D Smith

PCS Life Member / PCS Past President
Today I had a great visit with a fellow PCS member who shared with me a group of photos he had amassed over many years of collecting. Among those photos was a very poor quality shot of a car that Mr. Vyse has talked about for years. A car that he and I both spent a lot of time in. A photograph that has remained elusive until now..................... Now, lets see what our photo enhancement gurus can do with it.

Brady is right. We have searched for years hoping to locate a picture of that beautiful 1969 Cadillac M-M ambulance. It was the very first ambulance I ever drove and thought many times how neat it would be to create another one just like it.

It is the yellow Zelley Ambulance isn't it Brady? :thumb:

ok. here you go.

Not much, but all we have ever been able to find. Lettering on the door: It's Zelley Again.

It has those strange Russ Dalziel lights. Is that a Michigan thing?

Finally a picture surfaced of a rig we've talked about for years. Thank you Brady, much appreciated. We ran that baby hard and put her up wet. I'm sitting here having flashbacks.....

PS: Note the gas prices

working off one scarfed of the net scanned from a old faded photo is kind of hard to get any kind of a image. but it did clean up OK played with it a little more and got this out of the shot. how come big yellow is orange?

Russ Dalziel Lights

It has those strange Russ Dalziel lights. Is that a Michigan thing?

Ron Thanks for the Compliment. Those Lights were customized by Dennis Distributors in Flint. Those Lights were made to Stay on as a marker type light (Transfer Light) or if You had a Hot run they will also do a Sequential Flash. Resembles the Flash on a Cougar style turn signal

Russ

That's the third MM I've seen with those lights (Mall City and Russ's being the others). Very unusual.

Did it really say "It's Zelley's Again"?!?!?!? Wow, that's corny.

I believe Zelley went out of the ambulance business then came back into it. I sure would like to to replicate this rig.

It did indeed...

It did indeed say It's Zelley Again. That was the fourth or fifth car they had lettered that way. I have a clear picture of that lettering somewhere around here. It was really kind of catchy. This particular car was sold new to Fred J. Stein at Groves & Co. Memorial Chapel, 605 Garland St., Flint. It was the last ambulance operated by the original Groves & Co. when they ceased ambulance service the car was sold (by Dennis Distributor again) to Zelley Funeral Home. Zelley operated ambulance continuously from their 1953 inception until 1978. It was Groves that went back into ambulance service after its purchase by the unlicensed Jim Alonzo (Bruno) Burnett in 1977. He was broke and out of both businesses by 1980. The one hundred thousand dollar purchase of those three ambulances didn't help. This long unknown photo was taken by PCS member Bill Blanchard who was kind enough to share it with me and in turn with all of you. Here is previously unseen photo of one of those cars on a call in 1978.

Great photos, guys!

Richard, all you have to do is write Steinberg a check for his '69 M-M, get some yellow paint, and you're on your way.

I have no idea how LARGE the check might have to be, mind you... He MIGHT not even notice his M-M is missing since his attention has been focused on a certain Pinner and a certain C/B.
