Huston......we have a problem

So today we hit dome debris that came off a pick-up truck. There did not seem to be any damage as it felt that we just ran over a steel pipe that fell off the bed.

Approximately an hour later while passing a couple of tractor trailers on the divided highway there was a little vibration and a loud BANG! the front driver side tire went boom!

My guess is that the impact with the metal pipe probably broke the tire's steel belt and every time the wheel turned the belt chewed a little bit of the tire until it blew up. We were lucky that because of my superior driver's skills, I was able to safely take the car to the shoulder where we waited for the tow truck to take us back home.

Looks like you broke a belt. What kind of air pressure were you running in it. With that car you want to run them at max it is a heavy one. If your going to have a blow out the front tire is best.

Most of the extended load will max out at 50. See the set on this Pinner will go to 60. but in this case i doubt it would have made any difference. Pick up one of the smaller trolley jacks they dont take up a lot of room and can lift one corner of the car high enough to change a tire. But good job keeping it under control. Lucky you didn't loose a wheel cover or tear up the fender.
