No more jungle jim underneath...
At the Ohio meet I noticed how ugly the trailer hitch was underneath the GMC. I almost took it off by accident last year in Piqua pulling out of a parking lot, so I got to thinking...what am I ever going to pull with this thing that would need something this heavy duty? Previous owner put it on to haul a car trailer. Previous owner also liked to weld...a lot. I was hoping to just unbolt it, but I knew it was welded on there. Wasn't as bad as I thought, and it should really clean up the back end of the truck. Now I should be able to drop the tire cage down a bit and get a REAL spare tire in there, not the skinniest thing I can find. If I remember right, I only needed like an inch or so of extra space to squeeze a normal tire through that hole in the back, so a couple cuts and tack welds and I should be good to go. I might make this thing roadworthy yet!
