Superior or not Superior

I will let the rest of you decide on what is in Atti's picture. I am wondering why there are white saddle bags on a black BMW bike.
The two door Ford in the backround is I think several years newer than the Cadillac or the BMW.

Jerry McNutt is retired and owns an Avocado Ranch in the same town we are in.... maybe he put it away in his barn years ago... will have to check it out! MM

That would be incredible if he still had it or knew what it is located, if still existing.

Mike, BMW did offer similar hard 'bubble' bags (made by Buco) and I have seen them in both black and white - but mostly black. They were quite stylish and had a pair of lights on the backside. My interest drops off when BMW adopted the Earles fork in '55, so I can't suggest bike year.

Those in question however are Harley-Davidson Speed King saddlebags which came in two styles, hardtail (through '57) and swingarm ('58 up until advent of fiberglass bags). Bag shapes themselves remained the same through the transition; decoration on them and mountings changed. Both styles came in either black or white and '54 factory literature states that Pepper Red and Atomic Blue bags were available that year. (I searched years and never found either of those colors, doubt if they ever actually made it to production.) My '59 FLF had white Speed Kings and I had picked up a pair of black for my '50 FL but sold bike before ever using them. Some BMW owner probably got a good deal and made do with what was available. :)

The Ford is a 1971 and the Caddy appears to be a 1964.

The thing I see about all cars is that they run in four stages:
1) a new car, very nice, well cared for
2) a few years old, still looks good and useful
3) an old car, get rid of it, it's just junk
4) an antique, collect and restore

So many old professional cars are gotten rid of cheap at the "old car" stage. Someone sells it cheap because they want to get rid of something they have no use for, and someone buys it cheap because they just want something cheap to fool around with. That's the time when some cars are saved and most cars are trashed and junked.

That's how some hearses became surfer cars.

My Dad (and I) had the foresight to buy most of our ambulances at the "old car" stage and we were able to preserve them. So buy those '80s and '90s cars now, while they are just old cars!
