HELP needed ASAP-Bearing support

Turns out the bearing support for the Criterion ripped out. Evidently the carrier bearing froze then burned through the mount.

So, I need the carrier bearing mount which bolts to a crossmember under the car.

Anyone have one????? Need ASAP already exhausting our resources here.

do like John subjested find a aug related place or one that does drivelines for trucks. they will fix you up with one that will work. the steel is not around other then used and the rubber is getting really hard to come across. or a compleat replacmet may be the only way to go.

Local driveshaft shop might be able to fabricate one but none available. My guy says he can make one work from a GM product having to weld on brackets since it mounts different.

Hoping to get a used one from a PCS member keeping fingers crossed.

The carrier bearing should come with the carrier. You making a mountain out of a mohill Richard, Pull the drivesaft and go to a driveshaft shop they will be able to go through the whole shaft assembly. The carrier bearing and carrier is nothing special the are used in trucks as well. As long as it is out go through the CV joints, this way you wont roast another carrier bearing when an exiting joint goes bad. I have had several comercial drive shafts gone through locally, recently. It usually take 3 or 4 days and costs me around 300. The most recent one was done last month on my 71 M&M Voulnteer. There is an up dated carrier bearing assembly with a machined carrier vs a stamped carrier that is suposed to take more abuse. I want to try one, but I have never had an issue with the standard setup.

My NAPA has one for 1975 cadillac comm. chassis Part # 6908BAL for $73.88 plus tax will this help you any?

Obviously I'm not explaining this very well. I can assure you, there are no replacements of this part. The NAPA number does not work after calling them just now.

In the middle of the car is the carrier bearing and a support piece that the bearing is mounted in. The support piece is torn to hell and needs replacement. Locating a carrier bearing is not the issue but getting the support piece is. My mechanic and I have searched everywhere including taking the damaged piece to a driveshaft shop who said, "Good luck with that".

So we are fabricating a new one from a Chevrolet van. Since it mounts differently we have to weld in a bracket for it to be mounted to.

Come hell or high water it will be repaired.

I don't have an issue with my driveshaft only the carrier bearing support piece.

Can you contact them to see if it is the bearing or the support piece the bearing is mounted in please. The support piece is metal and mounted to the frame crossmember. There is a rubber mount in the middle to which the carrier bearing is mounted into it.

We're making another work but now curious we're comparing apples to apples.

Below is a photo of what Richard is in need of. The bolt holes are aprox 5 1/8 from center to center. The bearing in the photo is a original bearing out of Josh Gentry's 71 Superior that I serviced the carrier bearing on while Kent Martinson owned it. It is a New Departure # 7983LL088. The Napa box (Napa # 6908-VAL) is what the new bearing came in. The flange mount or carrier is what you can get new anywhere anymore. One would think with all the different industrial/commercial/heavy duty and severe service flange mount bearing applications out there surly something could be found that would work. The carrier would be metal, adjustable and serviceable (grease fitting) as well. Might would have to weld in a plate to realign mounting holes but one would think it would work. See link below for industrial bearings that I'm referring to.

The carrier bearing and assembly shown is from one of my 73 M-M parts cars and is not for sale. Its the only spare I have. Its shown for reference. I keep it on board of the 73 M-M combo just in case its needed while on the road.

when the man said bring it down we can make one. that should have been the end of the discussion. the 40 year old rubber only used for a few years is gone you say the shaft rattled around enough the housing is gone. the bearing. is still around but the rest is not. they will pick a bearing that is correct in a mount and adapt the mount to your crossmember. no more then gm did to start out with. juat get onemore andaske them if you can have greasable one.

This is what me and a few others said to do along time ago, easy fix.
