Guess who brought a Criterion???

I'm really happy for you, Danny. I'm at about the same point with my '75 Criterion, and I'm enjoying every second! A long way to go, but what fun!

Best of luck to you!!!

:specool:

After only a short time and little effort the criterion will now start up and drive around the yard. Still needs some tlc to take off down the open road though. This is all good being I bought it not even expecting it to run at all being not started in years. Worst thing now is a leaky brake line and usual exhaust manifold leaks but that is not a big deal, I can always just sit and play with the lights and siren!

Couldn't stand it, was playing with the criterion today and next thing I know I was driving down the hwy, sorta. Actually, there is an industrial park behind our dealership and it runs down the hill about quarter mile so off I went through the industrial park and back out on the road and back around. Got up to about 40mph in the short distance but hard part was trying to stop being hardly any brakes at the moment. What fun we have with these old cars. No idea how many years since she has seen the open road. After I get the brake line fixed and drivers side exhaust manifold worked on she will be alittle more drivable.:14_6_12: Look out Richard, I am after you!

Danny,
There were three cars from Trego County (Wakeeny) that were purchased by MAST ambulance in Kansas City, MO (or more specifically their contractor EPI) back in the 90's with the idea that they could piece together one good parade car out of the lot. That idea fell apart when EPI was disbanded and legend has it that the former employees took the cars for their own. I have some pictures of them someplace that I think came from Steve Loftin. Let me see if I can track them down.

Ooooh! Eric, any help appreciated here. Trego was last county to title the car I have and last tag was 1990. Guy in TX I got from claimed he had car about three years but he never titled it in his name and I don't know where he got it and he does't respond to my emails now that I have car. Title signed off in late 90's.:)

Trego Co. Amb. Service (private service, contracted with the county; no longer in operation) bought all three of these cars used from Bob Dietz; I have no idea where they served new.

All three were purchased from EPI by the man you bought the '74 from. He still has the '72 Superior, and the '75 Superior is owned by a collector in MO.

Next step taken today: Took the criterion to exhaust guy to see just how much to patch that up. Think it needs drivers side exhaust manifold work and tail pipe work. Estimate reveiled to me in the morning. Next step will be leaking brake line. Will have to drive 20 miles to my mechanic for brake line work, that should be a hoot! I left the criterion at exhaust shop and told them brakes were very poor and nobody wanted to move to stall fearing not being able to stop but the guy who will do the work came in and said "Oh Boy" another ambulance to work on and speeded around the building with siren blareing. He is quite a nut but can't be beat when it comes to exhaust work.

must be a think with the guys that do that work. the ones I run up to here love the cars to. got to get a muffler on the limo tomorrow man I just don't believe you cant get more then 24 years out of one of them. here they are working on getting the rattles out of Jim's 66

Two exhaust manifold bolts and tailpipe and she is ready to pick up. Price seemed fair at $170:alc:

Little screw up with my info. Went to get the car and price was for three cars we had worked on and bill for 74 was $50. Two manifold bolts were replaced and a piece of pipe in front of muffler. They didn't notice tail pipe was gone past axel so after I get brakes fixed will take back for that. Got back to dealership and tried to put in park and shifter didn't engage tranny when moved so knew linkage had an issue. Checked and sure enough the clip had broke that held the shifter rod to tranny rod. No big deal there. My exhaust is quite like it is suppossed to be now.

Thanks to Dave Ware for some glass I had our usual glass installer come by today and we got the back door glass in but it got late so he said he would come back maybe tomorrow to put the passenger door glass in. Another day another step closer to having a driving car.
