While I recognized the photo that started this thread as a joke, I do agree with the underlying theme of funeral traditions are going out the window it seems.
Even in my life time, and I think I'm one of the younger PCS members, I remember a two day wake, followed by a third day that had a service at the funeral home, a procession to the cemetery, and a service at the graveside.
Now the funerals I've been at for the past couple years consist of a couple hour wake followed immediately by the funeral service, and that's it. No seeing your loved one off to the cemetery, no finality, and everyone just seeming to have the attitude of lets get this over with so I can go home and enjoy the rest of the day I took off of work. Great attitude to have towards someone who you will literally never ever see again.
As I see it, this rather cavalier attitude toward the end of one's life is just another example of the general degradation of society, and in a matter close to the hearts of people in this club, an example of why we end up with ugly vehicles like the new line of Lincoln hearses. After all, where is the incentive for funeral directors to demand dignified formal cars when they can conduct all their business out of the eyes of the family using a van bought at the local car dealer?
