Frost on the Criterion this morning

Richard if it makes you feel better it seems as though all new cars/trucks are somewhat of a pain in the butt. I have a 2007 Toyota Tundra that I must have the oil changed at the dealership, because it requires the use of a special tool to access the oil filter. When I brought the truck to an oil change shop they told me to bring it to the dealer because they have to charge $70 in labor to access the oil filter. So I costs me $30 at the dealership every 3,000 miles.

Just wait until you have a dead battery on the Boxter, Richard. The battery is up front but you have an electric release for the bonnett. The owners manual advises that if you can not jump start it, you must tow it to the dealer, but in order to tow it, you need the "towing eyelet" which is in the tool kit in the front bonnet compartment.

This little Boxster sure sounds like it and Lexus that I know of that both need a "hit" put out on em! Think the Godfather can take care of both of them!?!?!?!:respect::yum:

I heard about that special oil filter tool from someone else, Crap! To add injury to insult, I'm paying for the thermostat and the counter guy says, "What about antifreeze? What are you using?" I tell him I got some from Advance Auto so he sends me to the service department. Seems Porsche antifreeze is anti-social with regular antifreeze and will gel up if combined. So at $55 a gallon off I go. Not trying to throw prices around but just venting the stupid expenses associated with this little beast. Terri says we are trading it in when done. I'll believe that when I see her drive off in another car.

keep your fingers crossed. but first take her to the Kea place then the new camaro will look really good. there a neat car everyone should have a chance to own one "once". but 55 bucks a gl don't you think the man putting in the pump knew that it need there anti freeze.

I've never seen the battery on our PT Cruiser. It's buried somewhere in the engine compartment below everything. I can't see it anywhere I look, I don't know what it looks like, and I don't know how I would get it out if I needed a new one - it doesn't say in the owner's manual, either. Obviously, due to the funny shape of the car, they had to bury it under everything else. At least there is a "hot" tab sticking up near the middle of the engine block for jumpstarting (and a bolt marked for the ground). I'll probably have to take it to the dealer just to put in a new battery and it'll probably be three hours labor....

remove left front tire, take off plastic access panel facing forward. find battery under the stuff there. lucky it's not a Buick with the one under the back seat that has to have the special vented top that adds 100 bucks to the battery. I would say a model A was simpler but getting a battery in there is not easy either.

I grew up around Service Stations back around the late 50's into the 60's and as I was in training for Body repair I worked in numerous GM service dept's.

Remember the infamous Monza/Vega abortion they dropped the V8 into? The only way to change the plugs on the left bank was to remove the motor mounts and jack the engine up...Nope very few of those plugs got changed but the customer still paid the bill.

Ford isn't any better in todays world...The Diesel 6.0's crap out all the time and to service the top of the engine you MUST remove the whole cab to change heads.

My Wife's Dodge Caliber...She ruined a tire and NO tire's in that size available for over two months...:poster_oops: So we had to buy two larger sizes and can't do rotations now because they won't fit in the front...and ohh yes Dodge fuel filters are servicable by dropping the tank and changing the fuel pump/filter assy as are Fords...So we'll be driving around until the injectors get plugged up.

One of these days they will have to where you have to take the car to the dealer to even check any of the fluid levels because I can for see them not even building engines with dip sticks or anyway for the owner to monitor fluids. This way, you have to bring it back to the dealer for servicing and they will be more than happy to charge you mega $$$$$ to do so!

Mercedes has removed the oil drain plugs from the oil pans, and they have also removed the dip sticks from the transmissions, from what I have been told. They suck the oil out of the engine, and the transmission isn't supposed to loose fluid between changes. The basic reasoning behind this is "if you can afford the car, you can afford our outrageous charges to service it"... :burp:

Honda of America is not any better either. checked things out today and the Tanny is low. you got to use Honda oil only in it. know one knows were to put it in at and Honda is not telling. I'm guessing the big tapered bolt but it's only a guess, that might be the transfer case. I can't believe i have to drive 60 miles to get a quart of transmission oil. I can't believe I need one either. move over Richard were in the same sinking boat here. :burp:

You left the "t" out of the third last word. Sorry to correct your spelling.:poster_oops::D

Come on in Ed, the waters fine!!!!:hide: And they say the American's don't know how to build a car-CRAP!!!!

your right stinking is the word. it can't be any harder to design things so you can service them. . kind of like dashes in the 60 down cars. working on one was a bear cat. except studebaker you serviced there's from under the hood. but to get back to this thread and you are worried about a Little frost try this out.

That's nothing Ed. We're expecting SNOW here on Saturday with a high of only 46 degrees. Broke all kinds of record cold temps this week. :winterrules:

So this is gonna sound like a real stupid question.......just, where in hell is all this "global warming" we keep hearing about. We're expecting 6-8" of it this afternoon and tonight.

Read Micheal Crichton's book "State of Fear" and you will see, "There is no global warming at least not caused by humans" and he backed it up with documented proof. Quite the eye opener. :thumb:

I absolutely DO NOT subscribe to the theory of "man-caused global warming". I got into a very spirited discussion on another forum explaining how I got to that point.

Basically this earth has been here for a long, long, time and it is horribly presumptuous of anyone to think that we (mere mortal man) have the ability to exert such strong influence on it as to make changes of such magnatude. There, that's the short version without mentioning God, which is what started the "riot" on the other site.
