Friday afternoon Marlene & I walked around the RM Auctions Spring Auction in Auburn IN (Formerly Kruse). Here's one of the cars that was to be sold. I didn't pay attention as to whether it actually sold or not. Tom

I don't know if the '62 Crown had Gold bars in the back or not but it has sold to someone in South Carolina.

A lot of those cars have been up there for sale for a while , so the owners may go down. It is a good sight tho. I sold my old coach on there last summer.

futureliner

Yes, the locally restored Futureliner was there, as well as an unrestored one. I never saw two in the same place at the same time, until last Friday. The photo with me in it was taken two years ago at the Gilmore Museum in Hickory Corners Michigan. Sitting in it was a real thrill! Tom

If you want to see one, Peter Pan bus lines in Springfield MA has one.

Model

Here is a pic of a model taken at Dobson Museum in Michigan. I thought Mr Dobson said they never made any, it was just a concept. I see they did, cool!

I'd say that is the first time in a long while that any of the Futureliners have been together! Thanks for posting those pictures Tom!

Didn't a one of these sell at Barrett-Jackson for over 5 million a couple years ago.

Come to think of it, I did see a Futureliner here in Tennessee once! It was in mint condition, in a hay barn................ ah ya'll know the rest of the story!!!!!!!:flame2::horsepoop-1::yum::pelt3:

I believe there where 12 in total from the second set of them that was built. the only one i saw up close before restoration was the one in auburn sitting behind the natmus museum , i do remember a cadillac dealership in detroit had one.

There is an un-restored one here in Southern California that they guy wants a lot for based on the multi-million dollar restored one that sold in a B-J Auction a few years ago.

Natmus

Andrew, the Futureliner you saw at NATMUS is the one that got fully restored, in both of my photos. Pretty amazing restoration! It looks even better when it's all opened up in exhibit mode. By the way, the drivers tell me typical top speed is only about 40 mph. Tom

Futurliners -no "e" in the middle- were built to haul displays in a traveling show around the country. The exhibits showcased General Motors products and various technologies, and included mockups or elaborate animated miniature dioramas. I'm not sure entire vehicles were transported and displayed in the manner shown in the model posted above. While the Futurliners are cool, IMHO the late-1930's "Streamliners" they replaced were even cooler. And if you think one is neat, imagine traveling on the roads back then and seeing a convoy of them!

The following video showcases an animated diorama that has survived and was for a time on display at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, and from what I understand, is now in storage after a restoration and brief run at the GM Heritage Center.

FYI, if you would like to own a Futurliner of your own, there is a company making a very nice replica of it out there. Looks to be roughly 1:18 scale. Very pricy if I recall...$1000+

I can find the name if anyone is truly interested. They exhibit at Auburn each year. (Note the Lincoln Futura (Batmobile basis) lurking in the background, in @ 1/6 scale...)
