FLINT ! Who's going to the 2013 micro meet ?

I'll be arriving by plane Friday afternoon. Staying at the Comfort Inn. I may need to hitch a ride or two. I'll fly out of Flint Sunday morning.

Sorry that, business and church commitments will keep me away from Flint this year. This will probably be the year that the roads will be clear, UNLIKE previous meetings!
 
IF things continue as planned, Barb and I will be up there early Saturday morning and come home that evening. We should be able to catch most of the real important things that way.

OK, confirmed. I do have a movie job with the Travelall ambulance in CT on Friday NIGHT, 2/22. I will sleep that day and work the picture that night. If I'm OK, I will leave as soon as I'm done and drive overnight to Flint from CT. That should put me there about noon on Saturday.

I know - I'm nuts. But the movie job will pay for my Flint trip and then some.

As for my model, it's complete and I've shipped it to Brady so at least it will be there. It's topical, appropriate for this year but not so much next year. I hope it survives UPS - I marked it "fragile" and "this end up" and the guy at the UPS store immediately turned it on it's side. I told him it was supposed to stay up right. He said it has to be able to survive a 4 foot drop on any side or corner. I told him, if it happened accidentally, so be it, but it didn't have to happen right at the counter! :argueing:
 
Yep Will Be Heading To PCS Micro-Meet in Flint. Will be there on Thursday and am looking to meet Darren and Jen out of Toronto for maybe dinner or casual conversations at the host hotel.

Thanks to Brady and Janet Smith from Plumb Smith Funeral Home for hosting the group and making this a PCS tradition.
 
Well, my very delicate plans for attending the Micro-Meet are not working out so well.

So I was driving up to CT today, and should have arrived around 3:30 or 4:00pm. Well, it's 8:30pm and I'm stuck in Burlington, NJ with a broken down pickup truck. The rear differential is leaking, the cover is cracked, and the parts won't be in till 9:00am tomorrow morning. At least it's just the cover and not the whole diff. So the truck's at a dealership, I've got a rental car and a hotel room, and I should be on the road again tomorrow morning and should still make it to the movie on time (if nothing else bad happens).

Now the Weather Channel is forecasting doom and gloom with a snowstorm that may affect my drive home to drop the ambulance, and should affect the Ohio/Detroit/Flint area on Saturday. If it's bad, I'm going to have to pass.

Combined with the damage to my model, I can't win.

All the bad happens at once and the rest of this year will be perfect !

Keep positive and if we don't see you this week-end we will again soon or in WI in August.

Dad and I arrived in Flint this afternoon... About 4pm Thursday.

So far, we have had contact with Paul and Dan this evening.

Wishing every one else a safe trip and if you can't be safe on the trip, do what you need to take care of yourself and we will catch up with you some later time. Best wishes all!
 
Can it get worse? You bet.

The differential cover they ordered is the wrong part. Apparently, my truck has a larger rear, from a delivery truck or school bus. Can't find the right part anywhere, even aftermarket.

Sooo, they are going to pull the cover from the dealership's parts delivery truck. Might still make it to CT today.

Regrettably...

Due to Lee Andersen's funeral tomorrow (Saturday) morning, I will not be able to make the Micro Meet this year. Have a great time and we'll see everyone in Milwaukee this summer.

The weather isn't good in many parts of the country...please travel safely.

Just arrived.
Staying at the Comfort Inn next exit down interstate. Little delay in Cleveland due to snow/ice on the runways. No travel problems.

I'll be getting there in the morning. I was planning on getting to Flint this evening, but with having to stay at work late and the snow, I figured it would be best to leave here early in the morning instead of tonight.

On the plus side, while I was packing up my models, I had a super awesome idea for a PCS meet related diorama. Since I have my evening free, I'm putting it together right now. For only making it out of a cardboard box, toothpicks, some sand, fake grass, and resume paper, it's turning out really well. See everyone tomorrow!
 
Have a good time and safe travels everyone. We can't make it unfortunately, we are smack dab in the middle of construction. See everyone in Milwaukee. That one I will not miss!
 
Sadness

Looks like I'm not going to make the event this year. Anyone wanting magazines please contact me and I'll get them in the mail.
 
For those who were keeping up with my saga of my journey, I will provide a brief update.

1) Pickup truck fixed, with the part removed from the dealership's truck.
2) Made it with the truck/trailer/Travelall ambulance to CT on time for my movie job there.
3) Travelall did well at the movie, and finished at midnight Friday night.
4) Drove home in drizzle without incident, dropped the trailer/ambulance off and switched into fuel-efficient VW.
5) Drove to Flint in decent weather - no snow, only a little ice in MD - with a couple of stops for naps of course (I don't drive drowsy, I drive downright sleepy, which I do not recommend).
6) I made it to Flint and got to Brady's at 4:45pm Saturday. Got to at least see most of the models, including Darren's incredible diorama.
7) Survived most of the Board meeting, then slept.
8) Had a good day Sunday with Russ, Sandy, and Julie (the massage therapist) touring Detroit.
9) Will drive home tomorrow (Monday) awake and with nice weather.

Whew! Pate and I thank you for your kind thoughts and patience.
