Flint Michigan Ambulance plate

The one thing that I have learned about the eBay auctions, is that once it is posted on this forum, it will increase the price exponentially higher than had it not been posted to this forum. Same goes for the Craigslist forum.... it drives the prices higher. When I purchased my 1963 Chrysler, I had to pay more for it than the original asking price that was listed in the Craigslist advertisement, because a number of members had contacted the seller telling him how "rare" the car was, and that the price should reflect this rarity. The same thing happened with the ambulance that Brady Smith bid on and won, and then the municipality decided to put it up for another round of bidding, after someone told them that they sold it too cheap.

Paul,
I understand what you are saying, but listing it here also brings it to the attention of potential buyers who might not have otherwise noticed the auction. Not everyone watches eBay as closely as I do. In this case, Richard Vise really wants it, but would he have otherwise known about it? I threw the first bid out on this ambulance plate, but I don't need it and I would rather Richard have it since he has such a strong tie to Flint, MI. A well publicized auction is still the best way of coming up with a true(fair) market value.

E-Bay

I also understand what Paul is saying, however I have to agree with Kurt.

I buy and sell on E-Bay procar related items as well as non procar items, and check some catagories several times a day....
So at times when something is posted that I might have missed,I appreciate it and at the least if I dont bid on it I like to watch and see the final results are....just for my own information.:)

I figured someone on the board would have an interest in the plate so I posted.

Posting Is one thing. Driving the price up by contacting the sell is another. A auction does not represent value. Only what two people are willing to pay right now for what ever reason they are doing so. I WATCHED two people run a used WASHING up over the price of a new one, just to prove they could .

Kurt,

I have to agree with you. With work and everything I do not get a chance to watch eBay. There has been stuff posted up here I would not of know about. So I threw my bid on it and let it ride. Maybe I paid more because of it. But it comes down to if you want it bad enough step up and pull out the cash. Money talks and BS walks!!

I welcome these ebay and Craigslist postings. Since what we are looking for is, or might be, historic, I think it's better that these items be shared. It would be better that this be bought by someone with some interest in saving it, rather than used for one of those "license plate purses", recycled, or discarded. That's more important than simply buying something cheeeep. :halo:

Not everybody can check every source every day. But a large group of us can check a lot of places frequently. Teamwork!

I bought my 63 Superior on eBay. Did I pay more than I had too? Sure I did. But it was what I wanted. I got it. In addition, another PCS member watched eBay and found a very hard to find missing part and posted it here. Like Mr. Lichtman stated, TEAMWORK.

Been watching this (not bidding) in the past 2 hours has gone from $29 to $58 with a little over 1 hour left, not sure if Richard is in this process but if so good luck.
