Do you ask for permission??

Wow, Paul- You're living dangerously ...when your wife reads this: ha-ha. I saw my first Funeral Coach (36-38 Packard Henney) at an AACA Meet in Ft. Laudersale when I was 23 and I immediately wanted to buy one. My first wife said "no way" and it took several wives, and 40 years for the current wife to give the thumbs up when I bought my restored '38 LaSalle S&S Carved Sided Damascus. For me, every time I do "ask" her input and she says 'no', I look back, deciding it was a major mistake NOT to have bought it, and I pine over the loss so.... years ago, I decided to just BUY 'EM without asking. Every time she cries and moans but, the first time people see and swoon over the car she reverts back ! Now, I have a whole garage full of really great collector cars- and have never regretted it. Listen guys- they'll celebrate your decision(s) when you pass - as when liquidated -the toys will fill her account with lots of green. It's sure better than a 401k plan or CD's !!

Permission?

I have never asked permission, nor have I ever hidden any of my adventures. After 37 years of marriage I had a complete understanding of my wife's feelings as to having a hearse in the yard, and I figured I had found a loophole when I explained to her that I was going to seek a Flower Car. I was careful to stress the fact that it was not a hearse, but was close enough that I would be happy with one. She listened and agreed to the quest knowing that I had a long history of not seeing all my plans through to their completion. As luck, fate or whatever would have it, a McLain Flower Car showed up on e-Bay some three days after my announcement, and I was the successful bidder. When the car was in the driveway she looked it over and said, "We need flowers for it." This was one of her passions and we created a floral display for the car together. We were married just shy of 42 years when the final words of our vows came to pass. I am no longer constrained by her concerns about hearses and I will eventually find one that will make a good pairing with the Flower Car and the six door that joined the fleet most recently. To return to the original question, no I never asked permission, but at the same time I was respectful enough of my spouse's wishes and feelings to be careful to not create an unpleasent situation.
