Death of Larry Hagman (Murdoch)

My former employer is doing one of the tribute services and it is being planned as a very large function. We are going to miss him but when comparing him to the modern day actors, he had a comic genius and a dramatic passion no one can be compared too. Rest in peace Larry.

No, but I think, in the end, we all ended up working for one whether we wanted to or not.

I worked for F+B Ambulance. Oh, sure, it had a different name, and it was a few years later, and it was in a different state. But it was exactly the same - multi-color rigs with mag wheels, cockamamie partners, nasty burgers at odd times of the day or night, carrying people up or down the stairs in ratty city apartment buildings. Our "Mr. Fishbein" had a different name, but he was still worried about "$42.50 plus 50c a mile" (though it was $70 plus $3 a mile by the time I was there). We even had a "jugs", though her name was different, too (I can e-mail it to you if you really want to know). And I fully expected someone to come in and shoot up the office one day (never did).

The names changed, but the story was the same. And that's why MJ&S is so danged funny.

I started my EMS career in 1973 with an F+B type ambulance service. We were bought out later by the other service in town that was more the Schaffer/Goodhew type ambulance service. This was an improvement for the the city.

There are still Harry Fishbines in EMS. I worked for one until July of this year. Same demeanor, attitude, and desire for money. Always claims to be on the up and righteous side. Now that I look back, his company had to be modeled after F&B. No Jugs though, but my last partner was hot.....

When MJ&S first came out,my employees started calling my girl friend at the time"PEACHES".We really could relate, cause we literally lived that movie!

Way back in 1974, or early 1975, there was a go-go-dancer called Peaches in a divey bar I used to waste money at, when I was young and stupid, among other things. That is why I sort of chuckled when I saw that name, it kind of brought me back to a simpler time. Forgive me, I was just daydreaming a little, I did not mean to hijack this thread.

Larry

Great article the the Ventura county Star newspaper earlier with two interviews with Larry.

Since it's in my old stomping grounds brought back memories.

The interesting thing to me was his Estate is above Ojai and when the recent interview was done Larry was in a room that was heavily protected with drapes and a B1 Bomber type of shield Larry had installed after the National Weather Service radar was installed right next to his place almost overnight. He'd fought against it for years. He was concerned about "rays".

larry hagman

ok, ive waited to say anything about larry hagman until now. i met him at the petroleum club here in houston back in 81 and i can tell you he was not a very nice man. very full of himself and looked down his nose at other folks. he was very, very arrogant. he was a texan alright but had been hollywooded. he was there for lunch and i managed to wriggle a invite from my attorney. he was not a speaker just a guest but i did manage a handshake and a quick word. mentioned mj&s and he just said welch was very tall(?). my minute of fame. didnt take his hat off inside the building either and i guess it was because of his hair or lack of. love all his shows but in person, i dont know.

I think its sad when celebs get this way, if it was not for people like us, he would not be who he is. Ive heard of others like this, and others that are still normal people.
I do see how they get that way though, being followed by a hundred photographers everwhere they go and not one ounce of privacy in their life would get to you. I would never want to be famous just for that reason.

Too late John. You're famous to us. Can I have your autograph? :applause:

Hopefully Larry was just having a bad day and was a little OFF that day when you guys met.

It is really too bad anyone is nasty but some days are good and some days are not and sometimes it shows.

I agree about John being famous... he can remember threads already talked about and can post a former link to them almost instantly.
I could go on and on but I don't want him to turn on us !

My 1960 wears a former J.R. hub cap and I'm not talking JR Ewing...

This is the famous PCS member John Royark JR folks !!!
