Cruise control

My to-do list for the summer includes getting the cruise control to work in my ambulance.

For this I will need a replacement cruise control switch and possibly a refurbished Transducer.

Before I scavenge eBay for parts, I figured I would start here. Would anyone have any of these 2 iterms available?

The car is a 1976 Cafdillac Commercial chassis.

The switches rarely go bad and the best thing to do is to take it out and test it. There is also an electrical switch and a vacuum switch at the brake pedal if either one is defective or there is a vacuum leak the system will not work. Most times they don't work it is because of a vacuum leak. Another place where vacuum leaks are common is the neutral safety switch and the brake release switch. Should your switch be defective try to find a NOS switch since the "rebuilt" switches don't hold up well over time.

I echo what Paul said. If you brake pull off works you know the safty switch is not leaking. But that is a weak spot in the system forgotten by most. A number of vacuum lines and plastic Ts to brake and leak. I don't think i have ever seen a bad on off switch.
 
The switch is definitively faulty. I tested it and it failed. I also found a gentlemen that refurbish the transducers, so I will send it to be tested.
 
That will be a standard caddy switch as least so you have a good chance of finding one. But you might try soaking in a contack cleaner. It may just be corroded. I like to use the evaporust it works grate on the coal hearsie ones.
 
Something inside the switch mechanism is broken. It does not stay in the ON position.

I did use contact cleaner on my door switch when I was at that point in the restoration and that did resolve the problem with those switches.
 
Some cruise control switches are momentary to set the unit's power. You should check with the owner's manual to see if there is more information on the switch.
 
Like Paul said. It's a momentary switch like the push button on your turn signal lever ones my 86 is a on off switch and states that on the Bezel. You can check continuity by hooking up the meter and holding it in the on position. As long as you hold it it should show current flow.
