Caddy Campers company info?

No literature on Caddy Campers? Pshhhaw, you're just not lookin' in the right place. Here ya go!

This should answer, once and for all, the question of whether these were built on cut-down professional cars - the ad states clearly that they were. As Atti noted, this company was on Vine St. in Lima, OH, just near the Superior plant.

And yes, while it seems quite tragic to us now, back in the late-'50's/early-'60's, these were just old cars with low mileage and little resale value. Obviously, there was enough market for these Caddy Campers back then that most of us have seen one or more still around now.

IIRC the only RVs mentioned in the Superior book were based on the "stretched-width" vans from their ambulance line.

That '58 is cool. Is the rear bumper/tank legal? :)

The Buick shown earlier in the thread reminds me of motorhomes called the Great Dale House Car. They converted standard passenger cars (including at least one Ford Thunderbird!) by replacing the rear half of the frame with the rear of a Chevy one-ton truck. Wheelbase was then increased, which at first might confuse some spotters as having been based on a former pro-car.

While purists cringe at these and the pro-car based camper conversions, I think they're cool.
