Completely random encounter today; I met a gentleman who has a soft spot for collecting emergency lighting. Since I've been slacking turning up no new coaches the past week (okay okay, nothing new 'public' yet, haha) - thought you'd like to see a portion of his collection right in the middle of nowhere TX:

Turns out that his first car was a '60 landau hearse when he was 17 too, fresh out of service. Used as a daily driver for 2 years. Doesn't recall the coach builder. Think that I met a new friend. ;)
 
Great, looks like he could almost give John Dorgan a run for his money!

By the way, having been to Tucson to see John and his collection, that's a very interesting collection of unusual lights and sirens - makes you go, "what the heck is that?" :thumb: He and his family were gracious hosts, too! Made the trip to Tucson tolerable!
 
I feel left out the link:boo: won't open for me. must be my version of home computer security. but then if I reply it pops open as I go back up. computers are weird.

Couldn't find other newer thread where Houston's collection was brought up. (Perhaps it was under eBay listings from last year which has since been deleted.) Anyway, happened to catch up w/ Houston over holidays. He relayed giving up trying to find a buyer for collection as a whole and started piecing it out. 2 things of note~

Props to him for sticking to guns on favorite piece. Selling the super-rare perfect condition Mars Aurora Borealis two months ago left Houston sad, even though it brought a whopping $4k to another collector. Bringing double what others have sold for is impressive.

Even more impressive? Houston sees a '70s Jeep on local CL three weeks ago. In the background? A firetruck with an incorrect - you guessed it - Mars Aurora Borealis mounted. He struck a deal paying cash and replacing with correct beacon.

The 2nd one is off being polished now. Not often any of us have opportunity to rectify seller's remorse - especially locally!!! Goes to show how much stuff is still out there waiting to be found. :thumb:
