Backup cameras

I have not installed a camera, but I did install a back up detector in one of my cars. I installed it in a six-door limousine, so it was real easy to put the little speaker on the back deck, and then I fabricated a simple bracket for hanging the detector under the rear bumper. Its a simple unit that starts beeping when you get within so-many feet of an object, and then beeps much faster when you're just a couple feet away. Mine was just a simple unit that I ordered out of the JC Whitney catalog. It worked great for about five years before the weather got to it.
 
I have one mounted on the 1963 Pinner Chrysler ambulance, since rear vision is limited. It mounts to the top of the license plate, and the wire to the wireless sending unit is mounted in the rear inside of the car. It is supplied with 12 volts. The receiver is mounted on the floor hump in the front, and the only connection necessary for that is to plug it into the cigar lighter outlet.
 
I am using the WIRED version on my 62 Superior.
With most of the rear upholstery removed, it was easy to run the wires, but still can be done fairly easily with everything intact.
I wired it into the backup light circuit to come on when the car is shifted into reverse.
I purchased the camera that tucks up by the license plate and a 7" tft monitor on fleabay for around $70.00, delivered.
Although the seller's messages read like he is from Hong Kong, the items shipped from New Mexico.

I purchased mine on eBay, and it was made by Peak. I have a large screen monitor, about 7 or 8 inches.... Don't remember the price, since I bought it more than 2 years ago.
I guess that I am lucky, since I was able to find it on eBay, not fleebay..:smiley_w_ballbat:

The camera is connected by wire to a transmitter that sends a wireless signal to the receiver, which is located in the passenger compartment.
No different than a wireless portable telephone. The base station is connected by a wire to a socket in the wall. These wires are then connected to the wires that are on the outside of the house. Those outside wires are then connected by wire to the telephone pole wires. The telephone wires are connected to other wires all the way back to a central station, where the telephone gets its signal from. The central station is connected by wires with other central stations all over the country. That is why your wireless telephone stops working when a tree branch falls across the wires on the telephone pole. Even though some people think that we live in a wireless world, the wireless world ultimately is all wired together in some fashion.
 
Two things I didn't mention in my first post

I opted for the larger 7" display, as the 2-3" screen it too difficult to see with my old eyes.

I also chose the 480 TV line with 170 degree wide lens angle camera. It gets a little "fish eyed" but helps show where the corners are too.

GM put one on my Yukon. my feeling on the factory one verse the add on . it comes on in the review mirror in revers, off as soon as you shift out. makes it vary hard to hook up the trailer with it. the add on one you could click on whee you wanted it, thats better. the fish eye is good, makes a full size car look like a matchbox one. impossible to tell were you are with it. I find I forget there are large mirrors on the side and the flashing moving thing I can't see what is, is the thing I'm starring at. I finally got so I don't pay any attention to it it's easier to drive that way. those beepers trust me if it a light pole dead center they don't beep. don't pay any attention to them either . to me its just more crap you don't need jacking up the price. but to each there own
