And the joke is on me...Zelley Ambulance

http://flint.craigslist.org/cto/1901438588.html

I certainly hope the person who posted this is sitting back laughing their butts off at my expense. Within an hour of this ad being posted today I had PCS members contacting me offering to go look at it, take pictures, and even hook their trailer to their truck and drag it home.

But as it turns out it looks more and more like someone is just playing a joke on me. There is no phone number (why not?) words like upholstery and siren are spelled correctly while the words bout and toed are not. This ambulance has been off the face of the planet for decades then all of a sudden shows up this week.

Oh well, thank you PCS members for offering your help today, it is nice to see members who see something they know another member would be excited about and looking out for them.

Thank you.

Richard

PS: Forgot to mention I contacted every plumbing business within a 25 mile radius of Linden and of course, no one knew what the heck I was talking about.

Richard, I know it sounds stupid, but did you try sending a email just incase its real? I seariously doubt it is, but you never know. If you know its not real, flag it, and it will delete the add. If its not real, who ever did it, thats just wrong, I'd be pissed.

Josh

That would be something if it were the real deal and then turn away assuming it was a joke, and don't get me wrong it probably is a joke but................???????????????????:myopinion: If I ever had the chance to find one of the old 73 Regency combos I worked out of well.......I know how you feel Richard.

Sent several emails attempting to reach the seller and called every plumber within 25 miles since he said he wanted to use it in his plumbing business.

Took a shot, so it goes!!!:2gunsfiring_v1:

No Way.

The car was owned by Argentine Fire Dept. last time I knew and it was really really rough. I mean rotted through the floors rough. That was 28 or 29 years ago.

Sold?

The listing now just says "sold"...no other listing details.

...sounds like someones really bad sense of humour.

Ad Text

Since the ad has been changed, I'll add here (with typos included) what the original ad said so this thread doesn't lose its meaning.

"1969 Cadillac ambulance - $2500 (linden)

I think it is a 1969 or 1970 Cadillac. It is yellow with lots of lights on the roof and siren on front fender. I bout it from Leroy Zelly many years ago thinking that I use it in my plumbing business never did anything with it. It has been in my barn in Linden ever since. the body is solid, but the inside is full of mouse turds. upholstery is in good good glass the barn is to dark to take picture. tires flat n don't run will need to be toed out. 2500 firm."

Now that has all the earmarks of what I love in an ambulance. Lot's of lights and mouse turds, how can you go wrong. The one item mentioned in the ad that not many people would know about is that Darwin Groves took the "Q" off the roof and mounted it on the right front fender. Not sure that has ever been discussed. Goes to show you, can't believe everything you read.

I do treasure the one and only picture of this ambulance and appreciate Brady posting it for me. What I am more amazed with is how so many PCS members were looking out for me and contacted me when this ad was discovered. Not only did they offer their time to go look at it and take pictures for me, one person even offered to hook the truck and trailer up and go get it for me and store at their place. Just how cool is that!! I had the Criterion just about sold to two people so I could get this ambulance, a mechanic lined up to go to work on it, and talked briefly with a paint and body man to begin that process.

It certainly got my blood flowing. :drama:

Too bad that it may have been a fake ad, that would have been a find!
Stranger things have happened though, my first pro car surfaced many years after I thought it was long gone.

I got excited about and told Richard a few hours after it posted, when I found it. I know about three poeple who could get really excited about it and jump at the chance to buy it, but I'm leaning towards what he's thinking. I think someone's playing a joke on us too... how very cruel. Just wait 'til we find out who... :clubem:
Now if I see a 1969 Abbott & Hast Ford on there, I'll really know something's up! :D

an Abbott & Hast Cadillac is something that I would really like to see!!!

What this person did is cruel and mean. Get your hopes up and then shot right down. I bet it is someone who knows you Richard.

I don't know whats funnier, the joke being played on Richard or the conniption fits the rest of you are having. I wish i had been clever enough to concoct this prank!

In complete agreement Rick. O ye of thinith skinith~

On the surface, there are only a couple users on this site with grammar that can be the CL ad's writer. That is of course improper grammar wasn't intentionally used to misdirect as part of the (hilarious) joke. Regardless, good way to let stuffy air out around here.

Richard - I'll play Texas Hold'Em with your poker face anytime. :smiley3:

I hate to admit it, but so do I! I felt kinda bad when I heard it's likely a joke knowing how much a couple people here want it, but I gotta say, if it's a prank, it's a good one! :hide:

Now we should play a game of guess-who-done-it :D
