A Series 75 Story and a Question

Been a while, but hope all is well with everyone!

This past Sunday morning, a friend called and said he had discoved a
'60s hearse" in the woods, next to a house while out exploring rural roads the day before. Of course, I made arrangements to take a drive with him that afternoon and I.D./photograph the car. It was about an hour's drive, and a nice day for it.

It wasn't a hearse... but he was on the right track: by 4pm I was headed home with a '64 shop manual and the clear title to a '64 Series 75 sedan (no divider).

We hauled the car home Monday night. She`s a big (literally) project.

Just beginning to dive into this car to see what's needed: rockers have some holes, rear quarters need work, front fenders are *cooked.* Carpet is removed, trunk dress-up dismantled. Upper body rust is minimal. Doors quite decent. Good and trunk very good. Rear bumper bad, front good.

Engine not stuck, driveline intact. Suspension looks solid. X-frame good. Floors have some bad spots. All glass is good. Interior very moldy, seat splt in spots.

It might be too much for me, but the owner had planned to scrap this car after losing interest, so it has been saved from that fate, at least. Supposedly it came here from Western Canada in the `90s.

Now up on tires that hold air and movable.

What`s next:

I really love the look of this car, and it`s has my favorite series `75 body-style... although not quite the dream `59 or `60!! As some of you may remember I had a '50 A.J. Miller Duplex project that I was was forced to sell (to an *excellent* home I`ll add, and no undergoing full resto to original cond.), as it was beyond me. I don`t know if I should do that again, and continue the hunt for one in more reasonable shape... or if I should hang onto this one for parts.. or... decisions decisions.

Figured you folks would enjoy the update and pics anyway. Thoughts and comments welcomed!

And here`s the question for those familiar with Series 75 for `64: horns on this car: Are they supposed to be located behind the grille? Are they supposed to be the 2 little shell horns and one long one, like regular `64s?

I ask this because I can`t find the horns anywhere... and I think the seller might`ve plucked them for his truck. A massive favor: could someone with a `64 limo take a photo of the horns, so I can see what they should look like, and whether or not the horns on the sellers truck are the ones off this limo.

Enjoy:

horns

i found some for my 63 at a salvage yard and they were the small and big trumpet horns. 2 diffrent sizes and they are at the body shop where the car is imprisoned at this time. the ones i bought were off a 70.

if memory serves me right they were mounted off the radiator support in the center. and hanging down under it. I think there were 4 different horns you could have. but you know I don't think I have ever seen a trumpet on a pickup in any years

That car is not that bad, unless the bottom is rotted out. The 64 had the left overs of the 63 horns (2 types, hi, low) The newer version was the short trumpet. Again with the high & low) The eldo optional long trumpet horn could have been the 3rd horn.

I removed a set off of a '64 deVille with the optional trumpet horn. It would have either had 2(standard) or 3 horns(if equipped with the trumpet). The trumpet may have been standard equipment on the series 75 and Fleetwood. They did hang from the core support in the center, as Ed mentioned.

How about a 61? I am either going to sell as a whole or part it out.

Thanks!

Guys, thanks for all your help and support. Going to try and save this one. And double good news: factory horns were in the trunk of the '64, *AND* the seller simply gave me the old set of dual trumpet horns that he had installed on his truck.

I'll keep you posted once time allows. Currently I'm working on a '66 Sedan DeVille, so I'll begin on the Series 75 after that. Another one saved from the crusher! :)
