A Pro-Car Driving Minister

Very good reading. Sounds like his relationship was based on looks, not whom the person is! So, If I had a girl friend at the time of purchasing my first pro-car my 73 M-M combo you guessed it I'd probably chosen the car! I don't have the looks or money most girls are looking for anyways and besides, I already have my hearses and ambulances!!! It's who I am!!!

Pro cars before women ANY day. I know if one ever told me it was the car or her, she would be packing her bags. Guess that's why I spent most of the time a happy single guy. Now I have a girl that I met when her dad put on a procar show, and her dad, uncle and grandpa worked at the hearse dealer. I knew that was a good sign!
 
I found it interesting when I read the "comments" after the article that our very own John Rabold chimed in about the history of ambulances and combo cars
 
I like the story, it makes you think. But, I hate to disappoint you guys, if my wife of 33 years told me it was her, or the car, I would choose her, without hesitation.
 
I was with my girlfriend (at the time) I had this idea of buying a hearse.
I bought it and drove her to work everyday in it for years.

The next one loved it too !

The third one I didn't have a hearse at that time but she loved my Corvette convertible ! (It turned 50 years old in 2013 !)

The latest one loves my old cars and has driven my hearse to Ohio and back on her own. Been to many PCS meets with me and always likes to go to the Dairy Queen for a Blizzard in any of my old cars !

I have had a lot of fun in my hearses over the last 20 years and hopefully I will never be hearseless again !


I like that John is dating Christie and both of them dig hearses.

I hear John and Brother Ledford about cars coming first.

I have been through a lot in the last 10 years and realize how important people are. That makes me hear Bill loud and clear and agree with him.

I wouldn't want to date someone who would make you get rid of a car or try to change you in anyway.
Since these guys already have the cars, the girl who come along now will just have to accept it or I am sure they won't be the ones who stay to long.

Luckily I have never be asked to choose !!!

...but like I say ...I hope I am never hearseless again !!!

will I have to join the me or the car and go with the car. not because of what you think. but because I would not want to live my life again with another control freak. any one that would make a ultimatum over that will make one over everything. and thats not the way a partnership is suppose to work. the fact that the man is with out the girl and the car says he was a slow learner but he could final catch on.

Think of it another way, I am in love with my wife! I am an avid professional car enthusiast, as well as other cars too. But, cars and material things can be replaced, people can't! And I am not trying to change anybody's philosophies, I am simply stating my beliefs.

I agree with you about control freaks, I can't live with that and nobody should. But would you choose a car over your lovely wife?
 
In life, one has many choices to make, and knowing when to make the right choice, even when it isn't the popular choice is important. One should never compromise their personal principles, and your word should always be your bond. When you give in to demands of others, knowing in your heart that those demands are not the right thing to do, you compromise your principles, and are no longer the person that you yourself know. As I said in the beginning, one has many choices to make in life, and only time will tell if you made the right choice, for both you and the people around you. True friends will know when you have to make choices that matter, that you will have made those choices with full thought. Those that are not true friends will call you names, and try to besmirch your reputation with others. One must always be true to themselves, even in the face of adversity.

Those are great words Paul, I think having and maintaining principles is very important. The only thing is I consider that people, especially our loved ones, should be more important than material things, this is one of my principles and I won't compromise.

As I stated before I know what my choice would be. I would much rather spend the rest of my life alone and keep the cars. I did it for many years until Christie came along, and I was very hesitant on getting envolved. Glad I took the chance, she is great, but no matter how much I love her if I had to make the choice between the two she would be gone, but know that will never be an issue, since she grew up around these cars and are perfectly normal to her. I refuse to be someone I am not for someone else.
Darren, the bad thing about her being into hearses is she wants a Henney Packard BAD!! I guess that is a good thing, so she can buy it and I can drive it .:) Not only does she like the cars, she loves to spend the weekend in the car hearse hunting, don't want kids, and don't care if she gets married. The perfect girl for me.
 
I think we are confusing things here. there is a difference in my wife or my car. I would never chose a material possession over my wife because she would never demand that I do so. if that type of activity were to take place I would again not choose my car over my wife I would choose my life over our marriage.
neither of us control the other in the relationship we are together in the world.
there are a number of ways people use other people for punching bags. a activity that starts when dating only escalates as the relationship grows older. see I did learn something form my first attempt at living together
 
One thing I forgot to mention, my girl is so great that she actually wants me to keep mine, every time I think of selling the 49 S&S or the 85 Superior (which is the one I was driving when we met) she yells at me and says I cant sell it. I think she is just waiting for me to kick off so she can have them. :cool:
Anyone that can put up with me as long as she has and loves the same things as me is a keeper.
 
For the record, Lucille has been putting up with and in many cases, encouraging me, with my cars. She enjoys the cars and the people too.
